MACI National Event
rogallo:
Hello everyone,
looking for some input here, Fred, Joe, Aidan et al.
As you all know, never go to a MACI AGM you will end up with a job :(
As Glider sec I have been asked to organise an event for all of us and need a date to run it. Now if it was up to me I would have a week long event in the Isle of Mann, but alas it is going to be run on this fair Isle.
Any thought on a date? Venue (central) and format for the event?
Ralph

Hiya Ralph.Happy new year!
Personally I'd say Limerick makes sence again. It's central, has most wind directions covered, easy access, spectacular views and very friendly people.Had a quick flight there just after christmas and the site looks great!
Would say more fun orientated rather than competition would be best to get people on the slope, scale section(judged by the scale pilots),slope race, combat like last year makes sense. With plenty of open time for people to fly whatever they want!
It might be worth talking to a local club about the potential of aero-towing if there was no wind?
As far as dates are concerned.I know Retroplane is the 7 and 8 of July so if we could avoid that that would good.
Fred:
Hi There,
Agreed with Joe.
Limerick (Hey Gerry, if you are around...) sound like it's in the middle of everywhere. But Isle of Mann sound even better ! I'm in ! :P
For the date, same, avoid the first week of July (Retroplane !!! :D :D ), but I think it must be run for a week end (2days)
For the event format.. Well, we can have a scale National, in a promotion format. That mean 2 categories, vintage / modern, and judged by the pilots.
For the other categories, you just need to be carefull not to transform the National to a big Fly-in. Can be nice too, but I think we need this year event as a category promotion, to have a better definition of the glider category in the MACI.
Just thinking of a national with combat.. More a fun fly category, and may not have his space in a National, and that may be confusing at the end about what this National is about.
I will go for Scale, Race and Aerobatics, and stick to these categories. But we can have a combat in a break ! :D Banzaiiii !!
All categories judges by pilots, in a friendly contest, but at least, that can be a good base for 2008 and a "real" National (meaning with Judges, paperwork and so on... :P )
Hope I'm clear and that will help you a bit.
Fred

That format seems fine to me. But about slope racing. What kind of gilders would be allowed. Would it be 60" gliders only, or F3F etc. Some people may like to take part but may not have the right gilder. I for one don't have any racing gliders, at least not yet :D . But it doesn't realy matter to me, I'll proably only take part in scale anyway. That is if I have my K8 built by then :D .
Fred:
Hi Alan,
About the slope racing, I think we can do a kind of open category with what will be on site.
Foamies, 60", F3F machines and so on...
I have a Flying wing if you want to participate.. I have my Destiny.. So, we can find a way ! :D
