ASW28 Refurb
rogallo:
Kevin, I still think a good polish and wax should bring the finish up on yours without paint. I cannot see the damage!!
Kevin O'Donoghue:
Car polish Ralph? I’ll give it a go first.
You might well be right. It’s just one old wound behind the wing TE that isnt filled properly. Maybe I’m making work for myself. I guess you won’t see it in the air.
billscottni:
At worst Kevin, repair the damage (if visible), spray just that, then T-cut to feather the edges and polish whole fuz.
Kevin O'Donoghue:
Hi Bill. I had a chat yesterday with Ralph after the posts. I always thought the gel coat was a clear top coat over the paint. I did some googling of boat repairs and the like afterwards and you are both right, the paint is in the gel coat so some lightly abrasive polish will cut off the oxidised and aged layer on top and hopefully bring the fuselage back to a good colour. It is pristine except for one bit of damage from a heavy landing. I might as you say fill and feather the old repair only. T-cut ordered yesterday from Micks Garage with a good polishing sponge. I'll post a before and after next week once I get polishing......!
Thanks for the sound advice.
Kevin
