Gliders > Slope Soaring

Friday 3rd July 2009.....Mt. Lienster (South Slope)

(1/3) > >>

Happy Days:
At last! some fairly dry weather and a good wind. It was nice to get the wind in my face and watch the planes dancing on the breeze again.

Three of our friends from Germany joined me on the slope. Here are some the models they brought with them.

There was broken cloud and SW winds gusting 40 - 60 Km/h with quite good lift.

Here is Alexanda, look at that smile,........Full of confidence! :D

Sabastian concentrating very hard......there was always the risk of the planes being "blown back" over the ridge  in that much wind

And finally Lothar,......having a bit of a bad hair day I think

I had already met Lothar yesterday at the flying field,....so I feel we are old friends now, (Well,......actually I am old,.....he is friend.    I thougt I'd say that before Fred or Joe did  )

Lets hope for some more good flying weather and another chance to meet up again

Keith

joe:
Hey Keith
Was just about to mail you to ask how you got on today.
Good by the looks of things.
Did you try the fox??

Happy Days:
Hey Joe,

Yeah it was a good day. Unfortunatley I'd already been flying for two to three hours before Seb., Alex., and Lothar arrived and I was only able to fly with them for a short while. :(

As for the Windrider Fox:

It's a very light model, I don't know the actual wing loading, and with the quite strong wind it was a little difficult to controll    She is agile but needed more balast for those condition. Good inverted flight, roll rate was fair but she lost a lot of speed.
She still can't compare with the Phase 6 though, that's my favorite at the moment. (Now that I can land her in one piece. )

I'll figure out how to increase the loading on the Fox and try again :)  I'll let you know the outcome. Or better still,...............meet me at the slope and try her yourself!

Fred:
Looking good guys !!

Can't wait to be at tomorrow to join the party !!
10 gliders in the car, ready to go... And more waiting in the hall, must last 2 weeks of intense flying !!  :D  :D

Keith, we will see you at the campsite tomorrow ? :?:

Happy Days:
Sorry Fred, I have Mandy's mother & father staying with us so I will be missing from the campsite tomorrow.

I'm hoping to be at Big L on Sunday morning/ early afternoon. (Will I be aloud to fly? I don't have any vintage planes.)(I suppose I could try to fly, after all, I'm vintage!!! )
