Vertical wing spar

(1/1)

Fred:
Not sure if that can be of any help, but I just did that :

This is how I do vertical spars in my foam wings.

I'm going to do a bit more of stuff like this I think, always good to share the little knowledge I have!

Next, will be fibreglass/carbone spars (doing the drawings right now) I and T spars.

Very useful Fred Thanks. What I would like to know is at what size wingspan do you need to put a spar into a foam wing. My little Pilatus has a 2m wingspan and I don't think it has a spar in it. I think the stiffness in the wing just comes from the wing sheeting by itself. But the only way to find out is cut open the wing and I don't I'm going to do that :D

Fred:
Hey Alan, sorry missed your message!
When to put a spar ? Don't know, and that depend of your own preferences I'd say, so as the type of spar you use.

But for a 2m wing, personnaly, I would not put a spar. Maybe a UD in carbone or fibreglass for the sake of it, but at these small wingspan, this is not really needed (never had an issue)

Alan_Perse:
Thanks Fred.

Fred:
Followed by composite wing spars :
