Hi everyone,
I hope I can remember how to fly - I have only flown once or twice since last October......
About this weekend.
Will anyone be there?
Does anyone know if the Mt Leinster Road is open?
Does anyone want any lead?
JIM

Hi Jim,
Same here :'( Serious cabin fever!!
I'll be there whatever the weather, I need to dust off! ::)
-
Hi All
Happened to be in Wexford today with work, Took the time to check access to Mt Leinster road not yet cleared on the approach from Kilteely last 500 to 600 meters is still blocked. Then tried approach from Bunclody could only get to westerly parking spot and sign saying road closed.
As you can see in the photos road has been cleared up to where it enters the clouds so might just be open tomorrow.
Bring snow shoes or skies and wrap up well! I will head down just to catch up with everyone if nothing else,
See you tomorrow
Joe
-
Thanks Joe,
I kinda thought it might be like that and if the wind is from the south - as forecast - we need to get to the top! Anyway I too will travel down in hope tomorrow - maybe it will be just for a chat - we will see.

Pouring rain but just packed and ready to go.
Things can only get better???
See you later lads
-
OOHHH!
Did not thought of the snow!
Remember we have another glide in in about 3 weeks time, you don’t have to travel if you are coming from far away!
We will be there anyway for the usual chat, coffees and banters :)
And show off the winter projects :)
-
UP there!
Raining, it supposed to clear up at 12 ish.
Meeting is at the café place beside SuperValu!!
-
Quick update!
The road to 9 stones is blocked!! Thanks Chris for walking up there :)
So, it’s flyable, we just can’t get up there :(
-
Thanks for the update Fred. I guess I won’t be going then. See you all at the April fly-in.
-
The road up would have been fun in the landy, but not entirely in a good way, there were sections where it was hard to tell where the road ended and some of the drifts were easily 1 metre deep in spots.
Ninestones itself was quite usable, if one could get there, but the sign said "Road Closed" and it wasn't joking.
-
Alrighty, mount Leinster delivered again!
Les and Joe flew! Nice one guys!
Sorry, today will not be the day nobody flew at a fly in! :)
Bring on tomorrow!!
-
WE CAN Drive to 9 stones from the Bunclody side!!
:)
-
Thank you all for coming this weekend (from as far as Cork and Northern Ireland! Thanks again for traveling guys!! :-* ) despite the less than encouraging forecast, but Big L did it again! :)
I believe Les and Joe managed to fly a tad on Saturday. Real pain to see we could fly, but could not access the slope!
But, all changed on Sunday!! A miracle, or some hard working Council people opened up the road to 9 stones!
Anyway, good winds, and we flew :) Understandingly, we were only 3 pilots, with Joe going up later to fly, but we missed him!! :( We must have crossed each others on the road, as I would have come back and carry on the flying :(
Anyway! We flew, and that's the main thing! The SnowBoot did the first flight, none event. Even got checked by a big bird :) Entertaining to watch!
Ralph flew his SB13 also for the first time. Looks good in the air for sure!
Next meeting is about 3 weeks away :)

Belles photos

Anyone planning to be up Mount Leinster tomorrow? I think the snow's all gone now...
Forecast is for southerly winds around 8kts from 1200.
-
I am heading down in the morning hopefully the weather hold good. The snow is gone I flew there on Wednesday at about 5 pm on the North slope great wind but it was bloody freezing. One half hour flight and called it a day.

Hey Fred,
Where are all the photos………………………..
Saturday was one of the best all round glider events it has ever been my pleasure to attend and if you had as much fun today you can certainly take a bow. Yes there have been days when I have flown longer – and there have been days when I was warmer.
But Saturday had it all – the chance to fly, to watch really good pilots fly, to watch really good models fly (particularly the Cortina!) was great and the chance to socialise over a splendid lunch with so many friendly souls was a joy.
And it all happened just because you organised it!
Chapeau!
Thanks also to the French contingent who made us feel part of an international community rather than a few lonely souls standing on a hillside - it was great! Your presence (and your most excellent catering!) made the event. It was a pleasure to meet you all.

Hey Jim,
Working on it! :) Knackered after the week!
And many thanks for your kind comments, but ultimately, this is a group effort :) And I do agree, it is nice to see the gliding community in Ireland to think this way, and that also show up in our meetings by constantly having great numbers of pilots showing up, even when the weather is not good, just for a bit of craic! :) :)
I just have a few photos (and from the Cortina!! :) ), I'll make up a page on the website as soon as my liver recover! :)
-
Ah well. Drove there yesterday, but only paragliders on sight. Which is probably the reason you guys left :'(
-
Hey Antonio,
Nope, we were there... up until 14.15 for me and most of the guys (long week!)
Paragliders were not annoying yesterday, they took off below us, then flew on the far right :)
-
A gentle reminder, next ISR Glider fly-in is next Saturday, June 9th on Tountinna. Regards, Gerry Buckley
-
Looking forward to it Ger, see you soon.

Great day’s gliding on Tountinna, thanks to everyone who travelled and took part. The day started out with low cloud preventing any flying, but by about 1pm the cloud lifted and we had a fantastic afternoon of thermal soaring on the slope. Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon. Some photos, maybe others have more.....
-
Special welcome to John O’Sullivan who is home on holidays from Canada, thanks John for coming to join us. This is John, note his MACI No.....EI 26. Well done John and continued good health and good flying
-
Apologies for the photo on its side, I didn’t take it like that and I should have said John’s no is IRL 26
-
Thanks to everyone for a wonderful day's flying at Tountinna.
Especially liked the Canadian Flag windsock, although at times it hung vertically.
Some more pictures
-
Hello everyone,
Great summer but it's September and traditionally we have rain / no wind / too much wind or clouds all the way down to the ground by next weekend.
Anyway I hope to be at Mt Leinster - probably Saturday. Is there a plan? Will there be a crowd?
JIM
-
JP and myself are coming down from the North
-
Hey Jim,
Will be there :)
Just had a look at the wind forecast, and looks like we will have westerlies for the weekend :) Bring on the lazy slope!
-
Thanks Bill, Fred, I will see you there.
Bill,
I see you have been championing a mass PSS build. I haven't built anything for a long time - years if the truth be told but maybe...... I'm not sure how this works but I can use CAD so if you need a plan drawn up let me know.
Fred,
How about a mass build wooden F3fun style glider? I never got around to building that one I drew up a few years ago.
JIM
-
Ooohhh, I like your motivation Jim! :)
F3Fun, I think I have the plan somewhere? I do remember your drawing, just need to refresh my memory.
Now, if people are motivated, PSS and a fun model, I'm in :)
-
Just finished Summer Gliding on Tountinna, will be on Mt Leinster for the grand finale on Saturday, see ye all then. GB
-
I hope to be there on Saterday as well.
-
Breakfast at the Queens for me this morning. Looking good in Bunclody at the moment
-
Brilliant day today!
Sun, good wind, and more important, great company!
Bring up tomorrow for an even better day!
-
A couple more
-
Well, after a good night sleep, a big massive thank you to all of you who travelled from all over the country to the event this weekend!
We were blessed with a very nice weather, straight on the "lazy" slope, and we can say the official "last" meeting of the season was a big success!
18 pilots on the Saturday, and I counted 8 on Sunday (but different ones than the Saturday... That shows that doing the meetings on 2 days is always a good move! :) )
Lots and lots of flying done, on top of the usual banter, massive amounts of cakes (thanks for the cream cake!! ), coffee, teas and chats!
Highlights for me, was to see Joe magnificient 1/4 scale Grunau Baby IIb in the air. That thing looks, and sound good! Need a pilot Joe!! Also, 2 Cortinas on nthe same slope... Must have been something unseen from the 80s! Add a Vampire to the lot, and we call this meeting vintage!
First flight of my A10, also a non event, and of course, my Sonic crash who almost ended up by me doing a lot of paper work! (checked the logs, nothing special other than me pushing hard on the elevator, and putting flaps up 5 seconds before impact!) Really lucky on that one on all front!
Anyway, below are a few photos, I think in lowish resolution, I'll do a proper album.. Have a bout 300 photos to sort!!
Thanks all again for coming!! :-* :-*
