Guys,
Planned to go to the big L this sunday to check a few things for Retroplane.
And of course, going to fly !
Sound like a good day at the slope.
Anyone interrested ? :D
-
I might try and make it.
-
Looking at the forecast Fred, the wind's will be a bit light on Sunday. Saturday looks better. Can't you change somethings in your life around and make it Saturday? (You know you want to!) I might let you fly my Skua S-15 if you ask nicely. It's a smiley plane (It'll put a smile on your face :) )
-
Whats wrong with light winds? I think its more fun to fly in light to modeate winds. With strong winds it can become a bit uncomfortable especially if you are trying to fly big scale gliders like Fred has (and I hope to have one some day also). But if there are stong winds they won't stop me flying, I just prefer light to moderate. I guess everyone has their preference.
Dont take what I say the wrong way, I'm just rambeling on here. :D :D :D
Anyway looking at xcweather.co.uk they are predicting wings of force 3 to force 4 on Sunday and light winds on Saterday.
-
Oh, you are absolutely right Alan! Horses for courses and all that jazz.
Wouldn't do for us all to be the same.
-
Well, that depend what you call light :?: I think that will be around the 25 km/h no ? :?:
Prefer light and moderate too, but only because it is much more interresting to fly, more challenging than slope soaring with strong lifts all over the place.
AAhh I remember the good old days, only flying thermals at the slope :(
-
Hope to get out at the weekend myself. Forecasts seem to be a changing every day with a few conflicting as far as I can see. We will have to wait til the end of the week to get a better idea then. Will start working on the browny points now! :? :?
-
I can see what you mean Joe. Hard to tell which day would be best, Saterday or Sunday.
-
Er..................so what's the consensus guys? Saturday or Sunday??
(I used to be indecisive,....................but now I'm not so sure :? )

Hey Keith,
Sunday for me :D
I will leave Dublin at around 10am, visit of the campsite + flying field, then head to the slope. If you want to join before going to the slope, all welcome ! (that's for Retroplane)
See you on sunday ?
-
My vote goes for tomorrow Saturday. Maybe more chance of a shower but we know there will be V good lift if it's clear!
-
I'm more interested in Saturday (today) as well. There is a northern'ish gale out there at the moment and it's calling my name. So I have to go! :D I'll probably be up there about 1pm.
Tomorrow the forecast is for a SW breeze. The south slope at Big L produces less lift for a given wind speed and the wind is going to reduce overnight it seems. If Fred and Alan, and maybe anyone else are going tomorrow I might pop up there for an hour or so, just to annoy everyone, and then I'll leave.
Keith.

Unfortunataly I won't be going any day this weekend I'm afraid :( :( . I have three college assignments to hand up next week. Got to get some work done on them over the weekend, and the K8.
-
oh snap!
I was hopping to go on sunday! :(
And i only saw this now...
-
Looks like it'll be just you and me tomorrow Fred, with Joe as a possible.
I'm not very happy with Joe. He asked me to let him fly my S-15 today. So,...being the gentleman I am, I agreed. He flew my plane around the sky for quite a time, and then,..............while landing,.........he hit me with it.! I ask you, hitting me with my own plane!!!
I understand you're trying an electric tug plane at the MCFC flying ground tomorrow Fred. I'll meet you there. (Maybe you could bring those models we were talking about?)

Hi Guys,
What time at MCFC field tomorrow ??
Brian

Hey there,
Well, it's not really a tow plane yet, a trainer, if flight is successfull, I will increase the power and put the tow hook.
Will be good for gliders up to 2~2.5kg :D
Handy to have, as that will free up the big tow plane for the bigger stuff :D
Brian, I will leave as early as I can... Maybe at around 9am :?:
Everuthing is charging and ready !
I can text you (send me your number... Same Keith if you want) when I leave Dublin.

Give me a call in the morning and I'll meet you there. Getting out two days in a row. I will pay for this next week!
-
Will do...
I already paid today.. Spent 2 hours in Imaginocity or something like that...
-
Well that was fun, wasn't it?
100Kph winds at the ridge
Two damaged models
And a failed attempt at dynamic soaring. Hmmmmmm
When shall we do it again? :D
-
Well, what a day !
First, to the flying field for the first flight of the Shark... A bit like back to basic by flying a plane
That thing don't even have airbrakes ! :P
Anyway, smallish wind at the start, blue sky and sun...

Base camp was established on the SW slope...

Is that a Joke fred. 80km/h   . How did you manage to fly in that?
By the way are you planing some areotowing during Retroplane?
-
Flying ? Was more like surviving in fact !
Yep, aerotowing is planned !
Put a hook on your Ka8! :D
