Hi Everyone,
The Fly In at Mount Leinster last weekend has wetted by appetite again for slope soaring in the coming season. A few of us are planing to go up to Lacken on Sunday if the weather holds up. The forecast is for 21 km/h SW winds, so it should be nice. Looking forward to getting out on the slopes again.
Best regards,
Fergal

Hi Fergal. Hope the weather works out for ya. Enjoy!
-
I'll try and make it Fergal. See you on Sunday, Hopefully.

Hi Everyone,
We had a really nice days flying two weeks ago. Even Pawel managed to get there, even though he only arrived in Dublin at 12:00 form Spain. And even better, everyone went home with no major repairs.
Anyway, I am hoping to get out to Lacken tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting. The rain is supposed to clear in the afternoon and the is forecast at 35 km/h SW. It could make for some interesting flying. Let's hope the rain hold off.
Best regards,
Fergal

Hi Everyone,
An abrupt change of plan for me. I just took the Tx off charge and discovered one the joy stick modules has been completely knocked off its mountings. Two the the three bosses, with the threaded holes, have been sheared off and third one does not look too secure. :-(
I now have to find where I can get a Multiplex Tx repaired. It would have to happen at the start of the season. I was planning of converting the Tx to 2.4 GHz, but I was going to hang off until the autumn.
Anyway, Pawel says he will be at Lacken tomorrow. It will probably be the best days flying of the year. Enjoy.
Best regards,
Fergal

hi fergal, sorry to hear about your tx. really bad luck. mpx telephone no in germany is 0049 7252 80930. i think they have changed address recently but i don't have it to hand just now. as soon as i get it, i'll pass it on to you. by the way, what model tx are you using?
-
Hi Gerry,
Thanks for the phone number of Multiplex in Germany, I will call them on Monday. I have a RoyalEvo 9, 35 MHz with a synthesising circuit. I have been thinking about upgrading to the 2.4 GHz M-Link system and I will probably take this opportunity to make the change.
I downloaded the Multiplex form for retuning receivers for upgrading to 2.4 MHz and the address given was:
MULTIPLEX Modellsport GmbH & Co. KG
- M-LINK 2,4 GHz-Umrüstung -
Westliche Gewerbestr. 1
D – 75015 Bretten-Gölshausen
This is the same address as on the web site, so I presume it is up to date.
Thanks for the advice.
Best regards,
Fergal

Sorry to hear about your Transmitter Fergal. Hopefully it won't take to long before it's fixed. I'm not sure there would have been much flying in the afternoon anyway. There was a big thunder/hail storm. Never seen hail so big before.

You could try this guy in the UK Feargal

Hey Fergal,
Sorry to hear that! :!:
I have a Revo9 if you want to borrow it!
This is my backup radio (I hate it, sorry! :P ), so happy to give it to you the time your radio got fixed!
As for the MPX support, for my Revo, You can send a mail to Mpx Germany explaining the issue. They will give you a ticket number. Send them the radio, and they will inspect it when they receive it with a quote. If you accept the quote, they fix it, do all the normal maintenance (backup battery change, software upgrade if needed etc etc) and send it back to you.
Take roughly a week or so. Great service from them

Hi Fred,
Thanks for the kind offer, however, I am going to be tied up for the next couple of weeks and I would not expect to do much flying even if I had a Tx.
I have already followed up on Bill's advice and sent the Tx to Mike Ridely of Model Radio Workshop. I am also going to take this opportunity to upgrade to 2.4 GHz. I once had glitching problems when I was flying at Bray Head (see posting "Radio interference at Bray Head (35 MHz)"). It only happened once, however, the 2.4 GHz should give an added degree of security.
Anyway, thanks again.
Best regards,
Fergal

Hi Everyone,
I am back in action now that I have got my Tx back from the Model Radio Workshop. Mike Ridley provides a good service.
I am hoping to get out on the slopes on Monday if the rain holds off. It will have to be Glencree, given the easterly 35 km/h wind. Let me know if any of you are interested.
Best regards,
Fergal

Hi Everyone,
Pawel and myself are planning to go to Lacken tomorrow. Meeting time still to be set. Anyone interested.
Also, I got my 2.4 GHz upgrade kit this week and I am looking forward to trying it out for the first time tomorrow.
Looking forward to see some of you at Lacken.
Best regards,
Fergal.

Hi everyone,
I am planning to go flying at Lacken tomorrow (Tuesday 14 July) and plan to be there between 18:00 and 18:30. The forecast is 20 km/h S and fine. It looks as if we will be flying down the slope from the road, no walking. What more could you ask for. Hope to see some of you there.

Hi Fergal. I hope to be there.
-
Sorry, could not be there :!:
Did you had some good flying ?
-
Hi Fred,
You missed nothing, the wind was modest and the lift was not not great. It was bumpy with the occasional sink.
I was trying my RCRCM Typhoon with the CG a little further back. I think I over cooked the change in CG. It flew OK, however the Typhoon response to the turbulence was more extreme with the CG moved back. Not nice flying. I flew for about 10 minutes but then a sink forced me to land. Of course, I would find that little hidden rock in the heather and undid by repair to the nose.
I taped it up, moved the CG back to where it was and got another 30 minutes flying with the Typhoon. The wind dropped and it was time to try my floater.
So you missed nothing.
We must organise a fly-in at Lacken sometime. Hopefully, when the wind is blowing strong from the west.
Best regards,
Fergal

Hi Fergal,
Thanks for the mini report :D
Well, at least, you had almost an hour flying time
Ok, so now, stupid question, full of shame... but how do you go to Lacken ?
I know where it is, but actually never been there, as fo SW winds, I go to Glencree.
What wind direction can you fly there ?
Also, any photos of the slope for the mini slope database ?

Hi Fred,
Sorry for not getting back sooner, I was out of the county for a few days.
Firstly, you will find the Lacken flying site at Lacken 53.13814 N, 6.441808 W. Try Google maps. It is a saddle between two hills and we fly off the west facing side. There is a car park at the top of the saddle.
You get to Lacken form Blessington, about 10 km. Again I suggest Google maps for details.
The flying site is a horse shoe shaped valley, generally facing WSW. Winds ranging from NW all the way around to S can be accommodated by moving around the valley. The main flying area, near the car park is ideal for the prevailing winds, W and SW. Here there is a reasonably flat area out of the lift for landing. You need to plan your landings in advance to avoid the odd rock.
For southerly winds you need to go back down the road and fly off the south facing side of the valley. You fly from the side of the road. There is no flat area here as the slope continues up the other side of the road, so landing is a bit more tricky here. However, there are areas of long growth so you can usually find a nice place to land.
NW winds require a 15 minute walk across the heather to the far side of the valley. This is the steepest slope and there can be nice flying here. The is no flat area but the slope is covered in a thick covering of heather and cross wind landings are usually OK.
Here are some photos from my cheap camera phone. I will get some better photos the next time I am at Lacken.

As regards Glencree, this is an east facing slope, suitable for NE to SE. How do you manage to fly SW winds there?
Best regards,
Fergal

Hi all,
Anyone interested in flying at Lacken tomorrow. Am meeting Fergal at the slope for about 3 o clock. Location in Fergal's previous post.

Beautiful day at Lacken this Sunday. Wind was tad strong for what I brought along but Fergal & Pablo (hope I have that right) both got in some good flying. Fergal has the 2m Typhoon and Pablo has something he built himself which flys incredibly well.
Wind slackened about 6.30 and got in about an hour with the floaters.
Some photos of day at Lacken. Have some camera video footage which I might post when I figure out how to upload (Fred?).

Dame I wish I could have made it. Had to go somewhere else.

Hi Everyone,
Some nice southerly wind tomorrow, 25 km/h. I am hoping the rain will have blown over by tomorrow evening. I am packing my Typhoon into the car in the hope of heading straight to Lacken after work. Hope the weather is kind and to see some of you there.
Regards,
Fergal
