Title: scheibe sf 33 motorglider
Post by: gerryb on July 25, 2012, 17:32:01 PM
adding my tuppence worth....scheibe sf 33 motorglider to 1/6 sc from cliff charlesworth plans.  2.5m span, weighs about 2k rtf.  1only ever built and colour scheme pretty plain so i'm doing my own. power is by turnigy outrunner, folding prop and 2400 3s lipo. 5 functions using 7 servos

some photos.....(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/gerryb/IMG_1878.JPG)  all the bits.....
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/gerryb/IMG_1874.JPG)  assembled......
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/gerryb/IMG_1877.JPG)   note the forward sweep....(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/gerryb/IMG_1875.JPG)
model is covered and rtf, but i'm very superstitious about taking photos of unflown models, especially my own. silly, i know but so is walking under ladders!  i'll post them after test flight.

scheibe has flown, and if i do say so myself, it has turned out pretty well ok.  first flight was on tountinna about two weeks ago in a very nice westerly breeze.  unfortunately i had no camera with me, so i had to wait until yesterday to get some photos.

took the model to shannon mfc and again very nice conditions for motorgliding.  i always had a grá for red/yellow colour schemes, so that's what i did with the model.

flying photos first............ (http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/gerryb/IMG_1992.JPG)

Really nice Gerry. Not too big a model, should get plenty of air time with it!

thanks bill,  model is quite light and slopes well in light air.  from a powered launch, it climbs quickly but doesn't stay at height very long.  maybe if it catches thermals it will soar better,  time and practice will tell.

Well, although it grieves me to have to admit it Ger, I’d say you’ve done a pretty good job there.  In fact, it’s nearly as good as some of my builds.

It looks a very professional job. Personally I’m not into red and yellow colour schemes, but then I understand you come from Co. Limerick so maybe that explains it. (But don’t worry about it, Ger. After all, nobody’s perfect. )

I’m interested to know how you worked out the power train requirements, or was it just a hunch as to what motor / prop combination the model would need?

All in all it’s a beautiful looking model Ger, I don’t know where you get the patients.  Very clear photos too. Are you bringing it to Big L at the end of the month? ( I think you ought to. :D )

K.

thanks for compliments lads.

keith, to answer your questions........

re colours,   actually, i'm from limerick city which is part of co limerick. if i was co limerick only, i'd use yellow and red colours - big difference!!!

my calculations for the motor / prop combo were based entirely on the designers recommendations.  cliff suggested a tornado motor, jeti esc, 2400 nicad which would have cost more than twice the cost of the model.  thank god for hobby king!!  turnigy motor, esc, 2450 lipo for a fraction of the cost and i'm in the air.

re my 'patients',  as i'm not in the medical profession, i simply don't have any !!    my 'patience' for building models is based on having the models scrutinised by blow-ins from wexford!!

finally, i will bring it with me for the fly-in
