Post by: DaveMc on June 29, 2009, 21:08:42 PM
Can anyone tell me if coloured packing tapes are available in ireland. If not any suggestions as to where I could get the stuff online.

Fred I see you painted your mustang, can I paint onto the filament tape?

cheers
Dave

Hey Dave,

Yep, I have painted the reinforced tape.
But first, after the covering, I have sanded everything, and then brushed a primer (cheap stuff from Homebase...), and finally, the final paint job (spray paint, still from Homebase...)

More details here for the P51 :

But, you always have the vinyl option, so as covering, like a normal plane, but with low temp (thanks Captain obvious!) using solartex...

Cool. thanks!

The sniper has been stripped down and I have added a carbon rod as a wing spar. I fibre glassed the nose, as it is very thin here as will more than likely get crunched to bits on the first fight. Then I coated the airframe in a copydex/water solution and when that was dry I covered the model in the re-inforced tape. The whole thing came out pretty strong. Not sure if it will kill a mustang but It should be a lot of fun trying... :D

I think I will go with the paint option.

Cheers
D.

Well done Dave. I'm looking forward to seeing this Sniper airborn. When will you be bringing it up to Big L?
Are you leaving the ailerons the same size as in the picture, or are you gonna fit larger ones? as I belive you said you might.

With my skua I folded some lead flashing around the nose. It balanced the model and adds a bit of armour,.......although I still have trouble actually hitting the opposition

Hiya Dave.
I bought my tape with my Skua.
Found the company below that does lots of different coloured tapes. Check out the warning tape too. Might be good to the bottom of a wing.
I have not ordered from them but probably will in the future though!

Cheers Joe. It is hard enough stuff to come by.

Kieth, not sure when I can get to Mt L next. My weekends are busy with work. I do most of my flying mid week. I need to hook up with a few lads that can get free in the mid week for some flying. I would have no prob driving over maybe once a month.

Dave,......................why not "hook up" with me Big Boy  (If you get my drift!)

I'd be happy to fly with you mid-week and we could probably get Joe up on Big L too.

Of course, if your thinking specifically about combat, it's much better when there is a "Target Rich Enviroment" Got anyone else who'd could come mid-week?

Dave!

Yeah lets keep an eye on the weather.  (Poor old Retroplane has been pretty much washed out)

If Ger and Joe can come as well that'd make a good little group :D

We'll keep in touch. :)
