Indeed...  nahh life and other stuff in the way, still need to cover the wings and then it'll wait for my P-47 to join it for some high velocity colour throwing contest!

Something new on your build?

You did lightly sand the ply parts before gluing to remove any release wax? :?:  :?:

Would you believe they don't use release wax when making plywood!

The kit comes with barn door brakes, a la Ka3, but as they aren't particularly effective and the full scale one has Schempp-Hirth I decided to add them to mine.

Don't like these.

Now we're talking.

Under way.

Little bit of covering!

Tail feathers covered.

I'm negotiating with Cecil's boss about him temping on the Ka3.

Now to connect the firewall to the fuselage frame. This plate goes behind(in front) of the firewall and holds on to it.

Why the stick is there might also be evident.  :)

Repeat...

Motor where we want it.

The mustache... just needs the beret! Bill this is a 10mm +2.5° hub and the blade go flat.   :D

Do you know that each time someone install a motor in the nose of a glider, a Justin Bieber's Fan dies!...

Oh wait, that's a good thing! Carry on, I though that was a Baby Seal that died...  :D

You had me going there!

How are you intending to get the prop blades to fold back around that bulbous nose? Might have to consider a cranked yoke for the blades.

Well as it happens...

Then things got interesting, first I covered the motor so the magnets wouldn't attract the fallout.

The collar hex just scrolled on my allen keys(both inches and mm) so when heating and various other gentle approaches didn't work the gloves came off! After some drilling and cutting I finally got it off.

New thinner collar, needed to shorten the hex so it could fit inside the motor mount.

5mm rod was used instead of the engine axle.

Marking to ensure I've got room for the prop hub.

Here the firewall has been installed but as the front part of the nose is just fiberglass, glued to the first fuselage former, we need to do a bit more to secure it!

Me and a flying mate have got our hands on two of these and decided we'd fit engines in them for some fun soaring time with our other planes. Also as a tester on those weak lift days on the slope or near the sea...

Three meter wingspan.

XPower XC3522/5 LS motor.

First order of the day, remove the tow release.

Didn't need much persuasion to leave.

Then we need to get into the nose.

Saw and a router bit in the Dremel made a quick work of that.

And the motor in its place... well almost, now it just needs a firewall.

As a bonus the panel already has an EGT gauge!

Yes, the full scale guys here try to use the chance when someone is bringing a container from USA to get the stuff put on them, less hazzle and not as expensive.

One of the many joys of living on a small rock in a big pond!

Thanks for the tip Bill. This is actually a full scale product, that Cub in the background isn't a model you know.

Poly-fiber(stits) is the stuff and they have an agent in Somerset.

Bit of dry wall filler, just look at that line!!! Maybe I should change professions!?  ;)

...and now for something completely different! Poly-Fiber(Stits) fabric will be used. First order of business is cutting it a bit oversize for the area of attachment.

Then the fabric cement is applied to the areas we want to glue it too, usually the extreme most parts of the area being worked on and around openings.

Glue applied.

In full swing.

Progressing nicely.

Then we shrink the fabric with heat.

Voila.

Not too shabby.

Can't forget the tail.

Both sides done.

Still I feel something is missing.  ;)

Didn't take long to fix that and now the can of fabric sealer(dope) is on the table. The fabric sealer does just that.

Bit of colour is in it so it's easier to see where its been applied.

Now we just need to let it dry.

It sure is nice to have access to good mates that are professionals! Pretty neat how effortless this method is compared to the good 'ol heat shrinking film. Quite a bit faster than cloth and resin. Compared to *tex fabrics it's quicker and easier. I'm sold, now the only problem is importing the stuff.

I wonder if the Quark...   ;)

And that concludes, for the most part, the build for now. Next up finding some clothes!   8)

Sun hatch working as expected!

Needed to add a bit more steel sand. I knew that planes with the tail servos in the fuselage had been adding up to 1000 gr. to balance the plane. I've already put 500 gr. in but assembling it today and balancing showed I needed at least 800 gr. more! So it was added before covering can start. What ever extra weight I need to add will be put in with lead sheets under the tow release.

What can I say, the Gulf stream does have some advantages!
