Does anyone know what the video sent to us by UAS general is about? Does it affect us flying our gliders in the hills? They talked about all kinds of categories of drones without ever explaining what the various categories are or ever mentioning fixed wing models. I would have expected (foolishly perhaps) that MACI, as our representatives, would have informed us if the regulations that affect our operations had changed 2 months ago so presumably this does not affect us.

I remember that early in 2023 Ralph put up a post on this forum that MACI was to introduce a new membership renewal system last year. I presume that the recent emails from MACI are the manifestation of last years intention.
As I understand it we join a club – then the club tells MACI that we are members – then we join MACI. Do we get a MACI membership card?

Some very impressive modelling Gerry (and friends).

Fine workshops too - particularly the one with the AGA!

Club talk / Re: Reregistration for IAA
« on: November 12, 2023, 13:10:18 PM »
Hi Fred,
Good to hear from you - I hope everyone is keeping well.

Put this on the long finger - only got back to it now.

I logged on the MYSRS again - still couldn't find anything about reregistering so I had a look back through my messages. There I found that my registration has not expired - it is still valid for another year. The e-mail from MACI was not correct when it said my registration has expired. I have sent E-mails to MACI and IAA to explain the confusion.

Thanks,
JIM

Club talk / Reregistration for IAA
« on: November 04, 2023, 15:53:55 PM »
Hi,
Has anyone reregistered for The IAA recently. I got a reminder from MACI saying my registration would shortly expire followed by another telling me it had expired. Neither had any info on how to renew which is the very least I would expect for the National organization that represents our interests.
I opened the Iaa website couldn't find a reregistration link so logged onto MySRS. There I found a registration link and completed the form. I said I had to register at least one drone so I entered the details for my Multiplex Flamingo. It said there was no manufacturer called Multiplex and asked me the max airspeed, Max dimension and weight. It had no category for sailplane - just airplane.
Then it said application received and that I must now sign up with a registered training organisation.

What is wrong???

Thanks
Jim

I hope to be there on Saturday too. Maybe just for a chat - I had 2 flights in 2022 and 1 so far in 2023. Covid broke a 30 year routine.......

Thanks Ralph,
I will pass the news. I have no plans yet for early July - so you never know!

Hello everyone,
Are there plans for Mt Leinster over the Bank Holiday weekend?
I cannot make it but a friend, an aeromodeller from 50 years ago, is interested to see you fly. I told him you guys are good and I think he fell for it!

Have a good weekend, and also at Tountinna

Thanks, Bill, thanks, Ralph, for your very prompt replies. Sounds like Jeti then.
There was a good breeze yesterday - probably a little too much for the old 100" I had brought expecting the conditions to be lighter. I could have gone back down to get the Flamingo but I could see a shower coming so I went ahead anyway. It coped fine!
The first shower came about 1:00!
Had you many fliers on Saturday? Had the French contingent gone home?
Thanks again,
Jim

Hi Gentlemen, Did I miss the memo?
It was quiet at Mt Leinster today. Just me and a new comer. I had a good flight from the SW slope - my first flight since Mt Leinster last spring.

Looks like you had a good day yesterday.

I have been asked to recommend a RC transmitter for a returning aeromodeller getting into slope soaring. I have used Multiplex for over 30 years but I know they have changed. (the 3010 / 3030 was the very best radio system I ever used).
So what do you recommend with capabilities for full house gliders - I assume it would be foolish not to have telemetery capabilities.

Thanks,
JIM

Hi Ralph,
When you say move the May dates to June, do you mean the April dates?

Or to put it another way, is the 29th and 30th April still on the plan?

Hi everyone,
Is the planned meeting at the end of April still on the cards - I might not make it this weekend .
Are you expecting a crowd this weekend? Westerlies tomorrow but blustery .
Hi to everyone and good flying.
Jim
