alan,  some of us locals plan to be there around 10am.  previously, some of our eastern brethren have been flying for an hour at that stage!  something to do with the sun rising earlier in the east, so i'm told.

joe,  haven't spoken to you in ages, looking forward to meeting up with you tomorrow.  any info on who else might travel from that side of the world?

great flying site alan, long ridge, great drop off overlooking lough derg.  landing site good,  bog and heather.  a few uneven areas where you do have to be careful.  l have often landed the k13 here without any problems.  landing your k8 should be no trouble to you

hi ralph,
forecast looks good for sat.  nw winds, so we should be at the top overlooking the lake.  check out  wind guru lough derg for fairly accurate
wind direction.  wind strength may not be so accurate because we will be on the hill.  if you remember how to get to the top, go straight there.  if not, i can give you directions.  anyone else who needs directions can ring me on 086 3497493.  looking forward to a great day's flying, see you sat

hi denis,    'the guys in the west' have been flying bot's for a few years now, both built up and arf and they all fly very well.  the arf's are a little heavier so penetrate better in a decent breeze.  the b/u's will float forever in very light air.  the arf fuse is fiberglass and is quiet weak around the wing seat, b/u fuse is a very solid affair.  arf's have a 3-piece wing, good for storage, b/u's 2-piece wing is a fairly complex build.  i put airbrakes in both types, simple operation in the b/u's, a bit of a headache in the arf's.   flying both types is very enjoyable especially with that distinctive wing plan.  in light lift on a sunny day.....magic!     hope this helps denis and  iv'e not been too long winded, best of luck.  ps, all of the above is my own opinion on the bot

« on: December 19, 2009, 22:03:21 PM »
hi all,
with all the chat developing about retroplane 10 i decided to sign on the forum and add my tuppence worth.  i intend travelling over with my wife lillian.  we'll ferry to fishguard, take the tunnel to france and spend a few days working our way to der wasserkuppe.  we'll travel by campervan and hope to arrive on site on thursday.  i'll have 2 gliders...a slingsby prefect and a reiher.  both models are about 3m span.  hope to meet you lads before then though.  hope santa brings lots of airplane goodies.
