How to... / Heat guns

Hi All,

Just looking into the use of a heat gun to finish off the tightening of oracover, I've a paint stripper black and decker gun but no temp setting, just wondering has anyone used these for applying covering or is it a waste of time ?.

Hi All,

I'm fitting the moving parts to the DG1000 at the minute and wanted to get opinion on tape versus silicon hinges!!!!!! I've got both but the tape is very obvious on the wing and I though the silicon strip might be better looking, but could affect performance in the air?...

Slope Soaring / DG1000 - The Story So Far

Hi All,

Just a progress report on the DG1000. If you recall I bought a DG1000 back in May from a chap but unforutnately the model was in very very bad shape. However rather than hang my head on this one I sought help from a number of people on the site and through a good friend of mine...... google.....

So the images I took of the glider parts when I first received it were as follows:

The T-Tail in some bad shape



The tail itself in bad shape also, poorly filled and cracked front and back



Below the Cockpit cracked right across the fuse, left to right



The nose crack on the right side and just epoxied back together.



Wing roots damaged and split



Wing tips on both side, cracked, fixings twisted and hanging off.





Wing Servos, cables damaged, plastic covers unusable, control arms and joints rusted....



The moral of the story don't buy what you havent seen.... daft I know and very obvious but haste was the enemy here.... however the next installment.....

How to... / Applying oracover / solafilm

Hi All,

Just looking for some guidance please. I'm about to embark on my first use of solafilm. My plan is to cover two wings with white covering. I was about to start typing a load of questions but realised I don't know what questions to ask. Has any one a step by step guide to this?

I'm concerned about seams, how much slack to leave, does one use two pieces to cover the top and bottom of the wing or one single piece, how do you hinge the aileron on the wing.

All guidance is appreciated, thanks

How to... / Repairing dg1000

Hi All,

I'm looking for a some help with the repair of a DG1000, it's in need of some attention. So the main help I need is

 repair of the fuse

It's got some cracks and it needs a paint job, so firstly, so how does one go about filling, repairing and painting a glass fibre fuse?

Repair of the wings
The wings are made of plywood ribs with balsa covering, the balsa is painted and covered with what I think may be oracover but I'm not sure, the plastic cover is coming away from the wings and the paint is lifting. So I want to strip the wings back and re-cover but I'm not sure how to go about this.

Any help welcome

Trainer / Painting an Easy Glider

Hi All,

Has any one tried painting an easyglider before?

I wanted to get some advise before trying anything that might damage the foam, I'm thinking of standard car sprays from Halfords but..... don't want to wreck the body. Any advice?

I'm new in the flying game so need an entry level set up for low cost to get me started.

Wanted / Nitro or electric

All,

I'm looking to maybe purchase a nitro or electric plane, with or without radio gear, I'll be at the glider gig at mount Leinster on Saturday so willing to check out what people may have.

Thanks, I'm new to the RC flying game but not RC models, a hi wing model might be a better shot for me getting started. Please pm with prices and pics before the weekend thanks
