Road trips / Kilakee - 27th January 2008
« on: January 27, 2008, 19:44:15 PM »
Hi there,

Finally home after a lovely day for flying !  :D

We arrived at the slope at around 12.30 with Joe, followed by Alan, Peter and a new comer, Fernando (Ice Wind) !

Very good wing, right where it should be, and sun !
As Alan said, like a bad summer day ! But in January, it's more like a really good winter day !  :D

We've also organise an informal/test F3F run on a small 40 mtrs leg.
Well, over 10 runs, Joe is the club champion with 1.25, followed by me at 1.26 !

The slope is not the best, well, very far from being the best, but we had a good laugh !
Alan was the official time keeper, and we shared the bases between Joe and myself.
We must do it again ! on a decent slope, the "competition" can really be good ! Who wants to join us ?

So, here are a few photos (spend time flying !) of the day.
Need to put some sun cream on my face now !

Yep, that was sunny !
And the sun in the face all day long !  :!:

And here is Fernando and his girlfriend from Portugal. Was cheating most of the time with his SwiftII ! Sloping with an electric motor !  :P  :P  And that was his first flight in Ireland !

A small video will follow soon...

Scale / 1/3 scale Ka3
« on: November 02, 2007, 08:46:05 AM »
Hi there,

So, here is my new project for the beginning of the winter !
During Retroplane, we were talking and showing the 1/4 scale Ka3, and between 2 glasses of schnaps    some of the German guys suggested that the Ka3 is fine, but bigger, that will be better !  :P

Ah well, sometimes, it's hard to say no to things like that !  :D

So, I have redraw the smaller Ka3, change a few bits and pieces, and here we go !
Slow start, let's say a warm up, with the tail mounting pieces.

The parts :

And 10 minutes later :

And that's it for today ! Next on that piece is to glue the carbone tubes for the V tail.

Next... Well, I have to make space in the garage now, and I'll certainly start the fuselage.

Slope Sites in Ireland / Co. Wexford - Kilmuckridge area - E-SE
« on: October 01, 2007, 15:42:36 PM »
Another slope... This time, facing the Irish sea.
Coastal slope, so very laminar winds, the sand dune are high enough to provide really good lifts, even in light winds.
Winds must come from the East - South East area.
All size of models can be flown without any problems. Lots of space to land behind you (big fields), but just be carefull of the turbulence at the back of the slope, can be really big, but once you are under them, no problem, you are back into smooth air and you can land safely.

For the slope, once in Kilmuckridge, follow the sign for the Blackwater Golf Course, then, the slope is situated at Ballyvaldon that will guide you to the beach.

This slope is roughly at 1.10 hrs driving from Dublin (new motorway) and well worth a try !

Here, this is only one of the field you can land on... That was the smallest here... :D
