Some of you know that I'm at this event in Austria. My pics from the first day can be found at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/182968716@N05/albums/72177720309260143

Was a bit quiet but supposed to pick up at the weekend. Sky was a bit grey and looking in to the sun so photos not the best

Open Electric Thermal Soaring: 2 May 2021
We’re back flying!!
Great to be back flying competitive events after the NI Assembly reduced the restrictions on sport. We’d flown for a couple of Sundays for sport (and to get rid of rustiness!). This was to be our first competitive event. The forecast wasn’t promising, but our CD decided we should at least make the attempt. 6 turned out, with a few new models (and more still to come). Unfortunately, David had an issue with his model and didn’t compete, leaving 5 to battle it out in changeable conditions with very patchy lift.
In Rd1, Paul pushed Keith hard and only missing the landing points separated them. Ronnie also had an excellent flight with his Bitsa (Radian wing, Phoenix 2000 fuz)
Rd 2 & 3 followed a similar pattern, little separating Keith and Paul, with Sam showing well in Rd2 and Tommy in Rd3
At the end the result was close, with that missed landing really being the difference maker between Paul & Keith.

Slope Soaring / Micro Sinbad Build
« on: April 24, 2021, 12:57:12 PM »
Ralph noticed me mention this build on Facebook and 'told me off'  :( for it not being on GliderIreland. Suitably chastened here's what's happened so far.
I've been doing a lot with foam and fibreglass recently and needed to do some woodworking again. Having seen Andrews Pug build I looked at the micros from Angelwing designs. I bought the micro Sinbad, ~£40. Delivered fast and the cutting is brilliant. It's designed for one of the Parkzone boards but after talking to the designer will easily take ultra micro servos which is what I intend to use. Will be covered in Fibafilm held on with Deluxe Maerials Cover Grip.

Events / PSSA Mass Build
« on: March 17, 2021, 13:12:50 PM »
PSSA have rescheduled their Sabre Mass build event. I know of at least 3 being built or finished in the Island of Ireland. Too expensive to travel to Wales, so perhaps we have something that weekend too? (COVID allowing)

A few of the members of NIMSA and East Antrim MFC met up yesterday for a little slope soaring. An easterly 12 - 16 suited the Bowl site perfectly  and a good couple of (COLD) hours were had!

100S Boyce Trophy 16 Aug 2020

A poor forecast and a move within the field we use meant no one was too sure of the conditions for this event. Our CD decided to persevere and we all met up and set up the winches on the top field. A very light mizzle was falling and Paul decided on 4 rounds 8 mins (1 discard), followed by a 2 man 2 round fly off.

The first round was definitely a feeling out process for everyone, adapting to both the weather and new field layout. Most were struggling for any lift with only Andrew with his Tracker getting anything like a reasonable flight. Round 2 was a little closer with 4 pilots getting close flight times. In Rd3 Andrew & Keith both got away, leaving the rest of us a long way behind. Rd 4 Andrew, Keith & Tommy had better flights, Tommy close behind them.

So after 4 rounds Andrew & Keith progressed to the fly off

Fly off Rd 1 was very close with only 5 seconds and 10 points separating Andrew & Keith. Rd 2 was a different story with Keith getting away and Andrew struggling to find lift. Another win for Keith in this curtailed season. Congratulations

If there was an award for Pilot of the Day, it would have to go to David: first time off the winch with a model not really designed for winch launching and creditable scores!
