Misc / Hobby CNC Foam Pro Stepper Control Board
« on: April 22, 2010, 12:55:27 PM »
Having seen what Joe's foamcutter can do, I decided it was time I got mine up and running. The mechanics were built some time ago, but I hadn't bought the steppers or control boards.

Fred put me on to a cheap source of steppers and I now have the 4 stepper motors required. The next step was the control board. I decided to go with the Hobby CNC board which I ordered from the US. Below are a few pics of what you get. Obviously there's a bit of soldering to do and I'll try and remember to take pics along the way and then show the system up and running.

The pc I'd intended to use has gone a bit "wonky". I'm hoping it's just a power suply and I'll be able to get it back up and running for both the foam cutter and cnc router.

The contents of the kit. I separated all the bits in to the plastic box, it doesn't come with the bits

The PCB on to which all the parts fit. The first 12 resistors are already on it.

The drawing showing the placement of all components

All the components which have to be soldered on to the board.

I've bought a fine tip for my soldering iron and also got a deal on a temperature controlled iron, so soldering here we come!!

Misc / Servo Tester
« on: March 03, 2010, 16:56:47 PM »
Ever stuck a servo in somewhere inaccessible, hooked everything up and found the servo doesn't work? This little device helps prevent that. Hook the servo up and it runs the servo through it's ful range at varying speeds until you disconnect it. No more failed servo's epoxied in!! Penies to make with the programmed pic at £2.50 posted from the guy in the article. Mine arrived in less than 24 hrs and took under 15 minutes to make

The actual device is the little lump just above the Y in Youtube, bottom right corner!

Slope Soaring / Replacing a Zagi?
« on: February 14, 2010, 13:16:27 PM »
The thread on Zagi reinforcement, reminded me that I haven't got a wing anymore

I had a Zagi THL, which went up in flames when my battery short circuited.

If you were buying a new wing, which of the many now available would you go for :?:  :?:

Slope Soaring / Bags
« on: February 03, 2010, 19:18:32 PM »
John had asked me to watch out for a ski bag for him. Mine came from Lidl, but when they had ski gear in this year, no bags!

Discount sports place in Belfast is having a sale, so I popped in there to check it out. Picked up 2 snowboard bags for £10 each and a ski bag for £6

The wing in the pic is a 60"

If anybody is interested, let me know and we can sort something out
