R/C gliding club in Dublin / Ireland
« on: July 27, 2006, 08:44:39 AM »
Hi there,

With Joe, we are thinking of creating a glider club. I said Dublin but that can be anywhere else, as the main objective is to have a 100% glider club (and electrics... Ok, a silent flight club so..  :D ) in Ireland.

With a club, we can organize meetings and so on... And why paying a licence + club fees in a plane club when you are not using the plane infrastructures ? (ok, only for slope soaring...)

Anyone interrested to join ? Any ideas on how to develop the.. idea ?

Hey Alan,

Good news !  :D  Any ideas for a club name ? :D Tried to find one with Joe.. and seems not to be an easy task
Just remember that "The Penguin flying club" is not an option !

Nothing wrong with me  with the power planes, just a question of fees for using something you are not using.
The club fees will be the licence only... Slope soaring is free !  :D
But we will have an organize structure to talk with city councils, Maci, other clubs and so on...

I heard of an organisation in calfornia called the "Inland Sloping Rebels". Maybe we should call ourselfs the Dublin Sloping Rebels, or The Leinster Sloping Rebels since not every one is from Dublin. Or may be The Lenster Soaring Rebels since we may not all fly from slopes. OK I've gone a bit mad here   .

More unusual and funny than Dublin / Leinster / Ireland gliding club !

And we will need a logo aswell !

Continue to go mad Alan, sound good to me !  :D  :D

ISR Inland Slope Rebels looks like a great club.check out there mag.very good Ezine.a few of their members produce PSS kits aswell.

Ireland Slope Rebels sound pretty good to me too.a bit cheeky! pinchin the name.

Island Slope Rebels i like even more!

other than that is the usual raptors, harrier, merlin, bussard, osprey soaring club

i like ISR a lot more though!

Hey Joe,

Island Slope Rebels looks like a good name for me !

We need to vote, but I think we have a winner here !  :D

Everybody agreed with ISR or have another idea ?

In the mean time, we are only 3 so far, so, that will be easy...

I think Island Slope Rebels is OK. But I think Ireland or Irish Slope Rebels is better in my opinion. We do live in Ireland after all. Go Ireland :D .

Hi Alan,

Right, but the pb will be with the MACI...
They don't want a club name name that may think we represent Ireland...

thats the reason i said Island instead of Ireland.although i do think Island sounds better :P

It's a bit cheeky robbing their name (well almost!) do you think we should ask them if they mind? maybe we should go for it first and contact them later!

the ISR name kinda leaves out the thermal and electric side of things.i don't think this is a problem.we can make it clear that we are a silent flight club in club info/website.90% of our flying is slope anyway as far as i can see!

True.. We are rebels now no ?  :D  :D

The only pb with the Ireland thing in the name, is that the MACI, will not allow us to join if we keep Ireland in the name...

Completely stupid considering what the MACI is doing for slope soaring, but that's the rule...

So, we need a logo now !   :D

The MACI will not allow use to join if we have Ireland in our name :?: . Thats realy stupid. What about the Lenister Sloping Rebels, LSR, since most of the slopes we use are in Lenister.

the slopes WE fly are in Leinster.there are great slopes around the country too.a lot of them better than the ones in Leinster i'd say.they are are flown by people we might like in the club and might want to join.slopers in Sligo may feel a bit funny about joining the Leinster Slope Rebels!
I personally don't see the need to have a geographical reference in the name.but thats just my two pennce worth  :P

Your right. I agree. But I would like to indicate to the world that we are from Ireland  :D . How about Celtic Soaring Rebels.

Yep, quiet agree with Joe. I think the goal is to have a "silent" club for everybody.

Something to federate (?) all the pilots over Ireland who wants to be insured, but do not use the usual MACI club type infrastructures (like the slope guys..)

So, I think, no need for a particular geographical reference in the name (ok ok, I'm French, so, I don't have any "Irish / County motherland" things in my blood    :P  :P )
