In the nine or ten years I've been crashing model gliders, the south slope of Big L has always been my least liked slope. However yesterday (Sunday) was one of the best days for lift on that slope I've ever known.
The strength and direction of the wind  where just on the 'sweet spot' of the slope. Couldn't be better! 8)

Apart from one dark cloud that past over us the sun shone all day. Now that's what I call flying! :D

News of the good flying conditions even attracted some old timers out of the woodwork.

One such old Lad  is Joe (for those who don't remember him. ) He and I use to regularly fly the slopes of the Big L summer or winter,  we've even flown up there in the snow.
Anyway, we were very pleased to see Joe return to the mountain, with a glider or two, if only for the day...................

Here he is preparing his trusty Lune and checking that his 35Mhz control transmitter still works. (Yes that's right,.....35 Megahertz. I guess some people like living in the dark ages!)

.
.

Once up on the slope he launched it out into the lift.......Up, up, and away she flew. It's quite a speedy little model and it certainly made good use of all the lift.
After a gentle landing Joe could be seen wearing a rather silly grin for the next hour or so.

.

The second flight however didn't quite go according to plan.

.

.

But all was not lost. Despite going 'nose in' the Lune was in remarkably good condition, apart from the nose cone having been squashed on rather tight and not wanting to come off.
Giving a hand with the recovery is Rob, an F3A flyer who want to break into the adult sport of glider flying.

Come back and fly with again sometime Joe. We can have some "Smashing" fun together

Some video & pics from the weekend. Apologies for the poor quality of some of the images, my cheap compact doesn't like shooting pics in to the sun  :?

Apologies for the silence!
Quick message to thanks all if you coming for the last one of the season.
Once again, a great success, and maybe some of the best sloping weather we had this year!

Report, photos and more to come!
Off to meet Sir Richard Branson! :)
Education is important, but flying RC planes and gliders is importanter!

Here we are nearly two weeks after the event and the only person to have posted any picies other than myself is young Bill Scott! I saw at least three people with DSLR cameras at the event,.....
where are the pictures lads?! :?:

So in the absents of any others, here are the odd ones I captured.

This pic is of some of the Dublin areas lads enjoying some rays,......one is even flying a model glider!

.

.
Kevin is looking particularly pleased with himself after putting his rather large glider through its paces. One of the problems with the South Slope is that
you have to carry the models to the top of the slope. The bigger the model, the more difficult it is. Good job Kevin's fit, isn't it!

.

.
Talking of large models you don't often see ones of 5 meter wing span. This is JP's latest. Walking it to the top of the slope in the wind must have been a tough job

.Ralph, (in the foreground) Gerry, (with the peek cap) and Fred, (needs no description) chatting about what makes gliders fly.

Hi all,

Sorry for the silence, catching up with life!  :!:

So again, many thanks to all the pilots who showed up, another successful event, and a nice "end" for the 2015 flying season (well, don't hang your gliders now, we are not done yet!  :P  )
I put up a quick page with a short report and a few photos. Of course, if you have more to be added, send them to me and I'll put them in :)

My God! ...................I had no idea I was so handsome :P

Thanks for posting John
(I thought Roisin looked very competent at the controls  :D She should do it more often. )
