Don't know if I'll make it down, but I'll certainly send the timing gear down.

You pass in front of the poles with the buzzer man watching to make sure that the model breaks an "imaginary" line which goes out perpendicular to the poles. Easier to do than explain!

Winds permitting I will be at the Big L on the 11th 12th !
Dad is unable to travel but I think Half Pipe is up for a weekends sloping fun.
Cannot wait to give the race a go.

Well thank you very much for posting that Bill. I found it very interesting. Not only as to the way in which the contest is operated but also as to the technique for flying around the distance poles.
They use a kind of split “S” and dive out of the turns,…. :shock:  so it’s not just Yank & Bank. :?:
I also notice that all the models in the video were V tails. :)

Type of turn will depend on the wind strength. It is possible to B&Y in strong winds, but in general conditions the split S (or Norwegian in F3f circles) turn is used. Keeps momentum better

A lot of the newer F3f machines are coming out as X tail.

Apparently it gives them a little more stability in the straight which makes up for a slightly slower turn and makes them easier to set up and fly

I'm having major back trouble at the moment and the thought of many hours in the car fills me with dread :shock:  :!:  :cry:

I'm unlikely to be down for the next fly in, but I think John and Richard are still coming down and I'll send the timing gear etc down with them  :?:
