Hi there Richard, good to hear from you. I ended up going for a Blaster 3 which I'm pretty excited about but was originally going to go with a PCM Mini Fireworks Q with ailerons but my 2.4 radio gear just wouldnt get in so just ended up going for a full size instead. I would have prefured a 1 meter to train myself  to start off on till I got my confidence but hopefully it will be ok .  Funny you should mention Canvey Island because i met the guy who compiled Slope Hunter a few weeks ago and that is one of the slopes he's mapped on his site. I havent been there yet but your right it's not that far. These are some of the other slopes i checked out which are a bit of a treck but doable . Walton on the Naze are small sandy cliffs near to me with a very nasty rotor, Thurnham Castle Hill in Kent which works pretty well considering it's not a big slope and always a good bunch there and then there are the South Downs which are in the Irish League but not quite  And Ivinghoe Beacon which is the completely other side of London Near Oxford which was the first slope I few at. Depressing to say the least, everybody was so enthusiastic about the slope but I couldn't believe how small it was! I had just come from Ireland with mega uncrowded hills to this!!. 2 years with possibly no slopes close by!!!  All sorted now as I have scouted a few bumps closer to me that could serve as micro slopes and a chance to learn alot I guess about a different kind of soaring with dlging. Silly I never bought one at home though I was close to it, shame as I would have learnt alot from you and the Lads. How are you getting on with your DS Bird? any dsing, any video? Looks like alot of fun that ship, still very tempted! Hows the Vector? I see Hammond is starting up his own operation now, very exciting!

ed

Hi Ed, I aint got a chancce to DS the Birdy yet !!!!!!!!!
You will love the blaster.
But be warned, they have very fragile wings.
I had mine out this morning before I went up to Slieve Gallion, winds were perfect for some light gliding with 14-18mph winds on the South East slope.
Just to make you sick ! a few pics,

Economic down turn has its rewards
MORE TIME TO FLY !!!!!!!!!!

Hi Keith, both John and myself had a thrilling St.Paddys day on the slope.
John flew his airliner and the modifications has made the airliner so so much sweeter to fly, John can fill you in on what he did.
I flew the Fox (as usual) but I added 250g ballast and it was fun !
Now for the fun bit, I flew the Birdy and for a small plane it rocks !!!!!!!!!!!
Hell it was so fast and the speed of roll rate was frightening
The winds were from the North/West and we were on the big slope!
Constant wind speed were 26mph and gusts to 30mph.
I hope to get some video footage of the Birdy the next time I have company on the mountain.
Problems with my camera ment I lost the video footage of Johns airliner.

I might get my helmet cam sorted out this week but gardening is top of the TO DO list this week.

So let me see if I have this right, Richard.
You’re in position of a rocket,………..and you want to spend your day planting daises!
Well, I guess there’s just no accounting for taste.

Glad John sorted his 787 out and I’m very impressed with you getting 250grms of ballast into your little fox.
As I’ve said before I tried everything I could think of to make mine “Go” but didn’t succeed. Well done you. It’s nice to have a favourite model that you can compare others to.

BTW what wind directions work for Slieve Gallion…….might have to toddle up there and take a look at your Birdy. We can compare roll rates. You with the Birdy, vis my Phase 6.

Hi Keith , Slieve Gallion is good for WEST, NORTH and EAST! The Southerly slopes are flyable but they are restricted.
The North and North West slopes are my favourite, the East small slope is also very good.
Clear your diary for the 16th-17th of April and join Fred, and travel up.
Fingers crossed winds and weather will be good for us.
I hope ,y Birdy will last until then lol
