Electrics / QuadCopter - Build and Fly
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:19:07 AM »
Here goes a short video.
Shorter arms on the quad, changed software and trimmed.

Need to put a LiPo warning in it, few minutes before shooting this video I crashed the quad while banking when the motors stopped responding as expected due to low power. So here I was flying a bit slower. :)

Result of the crash, 3 legs off. But I realized that this is not the optimal solution and a alternative is already designed that I should implement soon.

FPV / My quad videos.
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:11:21 AM »
Hi,

I had this done sometime ago and almost forgot about it.
It was done in Malahide Park, someone lend me a GoPro HD and I stick it into the quad for a ride.
I didn't spend much time editing it so it's a bit boring.

This ended in I getting one myself, so more videos to follow.

Funny, it was actaully the first time I tried it with a text not from my native language and it kinda works.
But I get a bit stuck on the bigger words. :)

Radios / Moving to 2.4Ghz....

Quote from: "Happy Days"
Hey Nando, why haven’t I seen you up on the Big L. lately? :?:  In fact, why haven't I haven’t seen you for years.  At this rate you’ll be an old man with grey hair by the time we meet up again! :P

I noticed in that link you just mentioned that the DHT module operates on 6 - 13volts. I assume you’re not going to fly with a 4.8v battery!!

(Just thought I’d mention it, in case you’d overlooked that fact,….in one of your normal drunken modes!!! 8) )

Keith

That's true Keith. :(
Problem is the Big L. is a bit far away I'm afraid so that's not too easy to go there often also with the holidays and so on I was a bit away from the island as well.
But I haven't stopped... :)
Actually I've been dealing with tons of RC projects, with a bit more of free time I'll share some here in the forum. But mostly is related to tricopters, quadrocopters and related software.

Yes I noticed that, but have in mind module is for the radio so there's no problem I'm already using in it  a 3S 11.1v LiPo.
I only drink cider and I hardly see someone in drunk mode with cider... i think or maybe I'm already too dru... oh! never mind.

@Fred, when do you think you'll be sharing the prices on those?
I'm definitely interested as I'm almost sure I can combine some of the stuff I've been developing with the FrSky gear. :)
And congratulations!

Radios / Jeti radios... It's official!

Looks... neat!

Good to see is one more alternative in the telemetry area, I can see in the catalogue several modules for different  models/brands of radios.
But it shouldn't be neither as cheap as open as FrSky. :)

Any news if they'll have a "hack"module with telemetry?

I can pretty much go for the normal Futaba module but I'd prefer to have the hack module instead.
It provides a much cleaner install and I could have a 2-in-1 system with 35 and 2.4 but I definitely don't want to give up on the telemetry as that is 99% of the reason I'm changing brand.

(Next time I should go to FrSky first... they just released new hack modules with telemetry. :)  Link: http://www.frsky-rc.com/ShowProducts.asp?id=76 )

Great news!

I'm planning to move to FrSky because of the possibility to develop on top of their telemetry system.
Just need to sell my Assan gear now. :(

Hi Denniz,

What lead you to choose the headplay goggles opposed to let's say the FatShark? Resolution?

I ask out of curiosity, out of many research I end up going for the FatShark even having slightly less resolution.

I couldn't let this pass without wishing you all a Happy New Year!
If possible with lots of flying.  :D

Electrics / Giros
« on: October 26, 2010, 11:09:49 AM »
Are you refering to a sensor itself or a heli gyro?

The way the sensor itself works is the following.
So these guys usually have a minimun of 3 pins, GND, Vref, Vout.
You feed him with a reference voltage on the Vref pin, let's say 2.5v.
Then when the sensor is stopped it reads like 1.25v in the Vout pin when it's it's turning in one direcftion it outputs >1.25v (ex. 1.40) when it's moving in the oposite direction it outputs <1.25v (ex. 1.10v).
The output represents degrees/second expressed in a voltage difference against the value you read when the sensor is stopped.

Misc / Monocok - Software to create fuselages.
« on: October 25, 2010, 23:17:30 PM »
Hi,

Here goes what seems a nice tool to help create fuselages for sailplanes.

Details:
Monocok is designed to create fuselages of sailplanes or aircrafts with ovoid forms.
It can also be used to design simple hull of helicopters or boats. It's a simple software designed by a model maker for the model makers. Thanks to Monocok, all the models you've dreamed become easily realizables ! Monocok helps you to design scale model with wood monocoque structure. It can also be used to make mould in polystyrene or glass fiber. You can export your project in DXF or PDF format to modify them in your favorites softwares !

Features:
    * Selective export of the formers.
    * Real time zoom up to scale of 0.5.
    * Former number preview.
    * Real time preview of some modifications (Formwork - Smoothing)
    * Precise and dynamic adjust buttons for numerical values
 • and [-].

    * Intuitive modification of the profile form with the mouse.
    * Loading of background images for each view (Templates).
    * Add centered notches on half-formers.
    * Intuitive design of fuselages with rounded forms without particular knowledge.
    * Layout and printing of all fuselage half-formers
    * Possibility to add notches on the formers.
    * Layout of the three model profiles : left and right side profile as well as top view.
    * Precise fitting of the form and size of the fuselage with control formers.
    * Automatic calculation of the intermediate formers.
    * Design of plans on several pages (A4 to A0, B5 to B0, C4 to C0, US formats).
    * Export plans to PDF format for printing.
    * Export formers and profiles of the fuselage to DXF format.
    * Safeguard of all the project parameters.
    * Real-time preview of the model with antialiasing .
    * Modification with a precision of 1/10 mm.
    * Management of the metric system (mm) or the inches (in.)

Hi Ron,

That is correct.
Like you said a gyroscopic sensor measure the rate of rotation within a particular axis.

The other case would be a job for an accelerometer sensor.

That's my plan as well, if you check the last photos you'll see i attached a cheap gum cam to it to try.

I think it's pretty stable for such a cheap build.
The gyro sensors give some counter action to unexpected movements but not having extra sensors there is no position and altitude hold or auto level feature. But that may change in a near future. ;)

I've have several new videos, one is on board using a GoPro HD and you'll see how stable it is. I just need to edit and post them.
