  I'm in !
Just for the cakes ! O:)

Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone is to travel for the event? Looking to sort out the food etc for the day. If the Wind stays Northly or NW it looks like it may be the back of Clara. We will not firm up the venue until the morning of the event though. Anyone may ring me from 9:20 am onwards on teh morning to confirm the venue.
Looking forwaqrd to seeing everyone.

Hi Ralph,
I'll be there ! :D
Clara, is that the slope you have to walk to the top ? (cross at the top) :?:
-
Yes Fred, but the back is a different slope, suns from the carparking area west for about 1/3 of a mile. Anyhoo will have to wait for the wind to make a decision
-
Alright, thanks.
Anyway, the wind will decide !
-
I'll be there - travelling from Kerry 8) !
Ralph, could you PM me your number please? Thanks.
Would there be any value in posting directions to the main probable venues, so that it will be easier than trying to explain directions over the (poor reception) phone to those travelling to Cork?

Edited first posting for all to see,

Hi Ralph,
I'm afraid I'm away with work next weekend so I will not be able to make it down to Cork for the glide-in. However, I hope you get some decent weather and lots of flying. I'll be logging in from abroad to see the photos!

I'll be there too, even if with no wings :(
Well, maybe the old Impala....
-
So, looks like a strongish North-easterly Sunday :?: ? Where do we fly in that wind direction?
-
Yep, NE wind, around 20~30 km/h forecasted for sunday :D
-
What site do we go to?: :!: :!: :!:
-
Yep, I need to have some idea too as can't get away early enough to go into Cork first.
-
Hi Guys
Ralph can correct me, but NW looks like the top of Claragh, maybe the lower front slope (I think the limit there may be Westerly), but I'll have to check on the map.
Either way I will scan my Discovery series OS map tomorrow and e-mail it to Fred to post.
BTW, Claragh is the one right behind Milstreet town so you should be able to find it yourselves easily on a map ........
I will scan the route to Mweelin as well ......... :)
-
Hi Kevin
Thanks very much for that :D !.
I think both Ron and I know Mweelin very well, so no problems there.
Does Claragh work in a North-EASTERLY?
-
Hi Guys,
No problem Kevin, send me the scans, and I'll do a page. :D
By the way, what size of glider can we fly to these slope ?
Just to know if I bother bringing the big stuff or not
-
Fred, it is the slope that Joe wiped me out on. I think you flew the destiny. 2M crunchies and foamies will be best I think
Chris,
NE on clara is only okay, depending on the amopunt of East in it!
I think the defib unit is gone from the the top too.
See you Sunday
-
Hi Ralph,
Ah ok, I see :?:
Just the PSS stuff so
See you on sunday.
-
There was a pair of us in it Ralph. It would be selfish of me to take all the blame!! :D
So looking like Mweelin then. I will past it on!!
Thats a nice slope. Landing zone a bit tricky for the bigger ones but should be good!
-
Still looks like NORTH-EAST across the entire island Sunday. IMO Mweelin does not work in that wind direction, Joe :?: - or are you thinking of flying off the "back" slope??
-
Hi Chris,
Yeah, this is the back slope.
Nice view, but the landing zone... :!:
Bring crunchies and small gliders !
I'm up for combat anyway :D BANZAAIIIIII !
-
Hmmmmm :?: I've flown there once; now I know what Ralph means by the need for defibrillators  !
Ralph, we will need ladders or steps to climb over the fence?
-
No, not as far as I remember, we had nothing to climb over and that was fine.
Or they may have put more fences (flew there 2 years ago I think)
-
Lads,
Just looked at the weather forecast for tomorrow and they are promising ENE at just under twenty mph. If this pans out we will be at the back slope on Mweelin. This is a nice rounded bowl overlooking the road. Landing areas are poor - not really big white glider country. Bring a zagi or other foamy and maybe a knackered old 60" / 2m crunchie !
Give Ralph a ring in the morning to see which may to travel. The lads are meetin early outside Noel's shop in Washington Street and will select a slope then based on the wind.
I have a family party tonight, but head allowing I should follow on your heels.
See you tomorrow ...............
-
Hi Kevin
Thanks for posting the update!
Given that slope, and the limits it places on what can be flown, not too sure now if I'm going to be bothered - there are some spectacular NE slopes closer to home.....
-
Hi All,
Yes I think that goes for me too.
Shame, but looks like I can't get away until 11:00ish anyway, and there's a NE slope with equally doubtful landings about a mile from me.
And I've still only got the old Veron Impala :( - until a package arrives :D
-
Thanks Kevin for posting update. Looking like the back of Mweelin Yes. Joe looking forward to round two!
Tis raining at teh moment but if you are traveling please ring, the final call for choice of site to be made at 9:15 am this morning as usual.
See you all later
Ralph

Alas, the first time ever, the weather has beaten us. Low cloud and rain prevented anyone from flying on the slope. Many thanks to Fred for traveling, (hope you got home okay???). We will have to try again later in the year. Hopefully we meet on the 10th on next month for the ISR glidein.
Thanks to all who showed up on the morning.
