Is anybody else getting actually getting anything done?
Richard, that blue foam will someday be your wings!

My workshop has moved into the house and I have a few projects nearing completion, only thing is I am looking for 4 sets of the MPX 5 pin connectors, I have asked Santa but I am not sure if he has them.
Just as a by the way anyone here have a few they could lend me and I will replace asap?
Merry Christmas to one and all
Ralph
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/rogallo/4-pin-servo-plug-195-p.jpg) this is the 4 pin version, I am looking for the 5 pin type please?
-
no 4's, but I have some 6's if that would help?
-
this is what I mean by a 6

Not that I’m one to brag :roll: ………………. But;
The temperature in my workshop is 22degrees C! :)
Just out of shot is a cup of coffee on the window cill, and the project on the work bench is a national secret. Because of that, information about it is only available on a strictly Need to Know basis.
However, if it ever does actually fly, I might tell you all about it then. And may be even show you some pictures of it. Isn’t that exciting for you!
The only good thing about this weather is that the winds have been generally light. So even if Big L were available, there wouldn’t have been any flying up there anyway. I’m hoping that when this snow all disappears it will be replaced by a few westerly gales. :D
Anyway, I can’t be wasting my time typing entries for this forum, I must get back to my nice warm workshop. Ho Ho Ho!
Keith
-

Soooooooooo... What's on the bench !
-
Looks small 50 - 60". You been getting a little mouldie Keith?
-
Like I said Fred, that information is a classified government secret. If I told you what it was, I’d have to kill you afterwards.
But I’ll give you some clues. ..................
The ailerons are 33% of the wing chord.
The length of the fuse is 60% of the wingspan.
And, proportionally, it has a large rudder and elevator.
What do ya’ recon?
If you get the right answer I give you a new pair of fishnet stockings to match your stiletto heels for christmas :P
Bill,…………..Perhaps it’s the camera angle. The total span will be just under two meters.
( I don’t fancy you, so if you get the answer right I wont be getting you any stockings)
K.
-
Must be camera angle foreshortening the span,
With those clues??.................. Kulbutin?
and can I just get the suspenders?
-

  Yea' I know the feeling
Good try, but no, it's not a Kulbutin.
BTW there is only half the wing on the bench in the picture.
K.
-
Minitoon or something like that with those dimensions :?:
-
Oh wait, Minitoon is only 1.5m...
An enlarged one ? :?:
A big Padawan ? :?:
A big Wasabi ?
-
god-dam-it  , you certainly know your planes Fred! Spot on, it is indeed a Minitoon. 8) Mind you, Bill was close with a Kulbutin.
All foam with coroplast tail feathers, two piece wing (for ease of transport in my little car) and a 1.8mtr span..
So well done Fred. I’ll be looking to you to tell me how to fly in 4axis when the weather breaks.
Keith
-
Minitoons!!!!
minitons is 1.5m or 60"., not 2m. Bit of deliberate misleading going on here to keep the stockings in the South.........Foul, Ref!
-
So what would you call a 1.8mtr toon, Bill?
A midi-toon?
Anyway, you said you can’t get any suspenders to fit you. (Personally I like Marks& Spencer ones. :) They’ve got that nice soft padding that doesn't pinch so much around my waist! )
-
I tried to buy a mini toons a few years ago and had all sorts of problems. The guy doesn't take Paypal or credit cards.
Sent cash by special delivery after consulting with Royal Mail on best wy to send cash. Guy said was never received and RM said once it left UK, they had no way of tracking it, despite what I was told when I asked them at first!
Gave up at that point as I was already down money.
-
HHHmmmm, What a Bummer.
But,……. now you have a hot wire cutter and, going by your photo’s, a plentiful supply of foam, you can make your own one. :D (or two).
So, “Bill’s task for Today” = Put on loads of layers of clothing, confound the opposition, and march out to the workshop and tidy it all up ready for a great Mini-Toon foam cutting session!!
(Sounds like a good idea to me)
K.
-
Tidied yesterday after taking the pics.
Got some wings to cut for Richard, so may do that this afternoon
-
Here is is, before the paint
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/rogallo/K8.jpg)
:D :D :D
Anyone guess what this is?
Let it snow let it snow let it snow....
-
ASW24?
-
nope :?
-
Ventus or Discus (because of the shape beind the cockpit) :?:
-
Well, I wrapped up and braved the elements.
Cut one of the wings Richard is after. Cured the tip burnout by lifting the template 1/32".
Don't know if it was the cold or what, as I can't feel any imperfections on the templates, but the wire stuttered a bit. Nothing that can't be cured with a little sanding.

Fred, no to both, look closer 8)
-
Ash with an "up & go"?
-
We have a winner, what gave it away?
Loads of problems so far will start a build log maybe.
Looks great though.
Ralph

Ash26 (rudder) :?:
What issues did you have ? :?:

thought of all the full size single seaters with sustainers
-
Hi Bill , the wings look really good !
I am also on freeze alert this last few days and the workshop is out of bounds for my old body.
Maybe today I will get a start on the birdy.
Richard
-
Will get the second wing cut tonight Richard
-
i have finally got the cub ready i started the engine the other day and have the tow release fitted and working
now ready to tow all your 2.5m to 4m gliders
i have the fuselage parts of the K13 laid out and some of the pieces glued
-
Your shop must be warmer than mine Andrew, I can't get glue out of the bottle at the minute let alone gluing pieces together
-
Taking pics of the eclipse this morn 6.30-8
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/rogallo/165568_1630093866863_1072080917_1658421_5037027_s.jpg)

Nice one Ralph. I wish I had taken some photos of it. How cold was it when you took the photo.
Your K8 is looking good. Can't wait to see it next year. Have you decided what colour scheme you are going to use.
-
I've just come in from the garage, where I was setting up the drop arm cutter for Richards left wing. I took my wind meter out with me which measures temp too.
When I'd finished setting up the meter read -2.7 C and was still dropping!!
-
BBBBrrrrrrrr!
-
BBBBrrrrrrrr!
Definitely NOT conducive to staying out there long!!
-
What do you expect when you use all your insulation for making planes :D
-
What do you expect when you use all your insulation for making planes :D
Good point :?:
-
Got fed up waiting on the temp to rise in tha garage and brought one of my boards in to the dining room, (major advantage of being single - nobody to complain about balsa dust!!)
These are the wings for an Island Models KA-3 at 1/4 scale that I'm slowly building

Nice one Bill.
-
Looking good Bill!
-
Er,….Bill, forgive my ignorance  (http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/Happy%20Days/Cropped.jpg) but what are these for on the rear of some of the ribs? (Air brakes??? may be? But they don't seem deep enough)
-
Thats the ailerons. They're cut free and a half round strip added
-
Hey Keith,
All details here : http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=420&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=50
:D
-
Ar-ha! Now I see! :)
I thought that the parts of the wing I was looking at were inboard, near the wing root.
All cleaver stuff 8)
K.
-
Curvy wingtip should have been th giveaway
-
i've ordered some wood from the Balsa Cabin and i'm in the process of making a fuselage jig :D
so fingers crossed we might be building soon
-
By the way... :D
Have that done for a while now, still waiting for the first flight.
All EPP, and should be my Nano Floh replacement (even easier to transport everywhere with the 2 parts wings :D )
Might be a fun one! :D
-
Being all EPP, and having two part wing, how do you set the wing incidence angle. :?: What I mean is, how do you stop the foam around the incidence pin from compressing or stretching so that the wing doesn’t “wobble” around the wing joiner? :!:
Not sure I’ve explained my question very well here……can’t find the right words this morning. (I’d forget my head if it wasn’t screwed on. )
K.
-
Hey Keith,
Well, the wing are joined together with the classic carbone wing joiner, then slided into the fuselage.
You don't see here here, but then, a plastic screw... well, is screwed from the top, to hold everything together.
Not sure if I'm clear either here ! But this is basix stuff :D
Photos of the kit might gives you a clue :

-
Hi Fred, now that is one lovely glider and you will have mega fun with her !
I am still waiting the mini Toon first production :D
Fred is your new swift the same as this plane in the video ?
I have been trying to find out about this swift for some time :!:

Richard
-
Hey Richard,
Nope, not the same.
The one on the video, as far as I know, is not mass produced, but really easy to reproduce with a basic 3 views :D
For mine, I went the easy/lazy way
For the other 'batic glider, hopefully some news soon :D Sent the files to be cutted already, just waiting for the delivery.
-
Richard, it apparently comes from here:
http://www.rctw.net/
But I can't find any of the translation tools that will do it :!:
-
You could try building one this way Richard?
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1327457
Looks reasonably simple
-
Managed to get some work done today.
Set up the tail on the KA3
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/billscottni/ka1.jpg)
And got a bit more done on the mechanics for the cnc foamcutter. It's based on the "La Rustica" plans
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/billscottni/cnc.jpg)
Hopefully the weather will stay mild and I can spend more time in the workshop
-
looking good bill
i have my fuselage jig made for the K13 i'm just waiting on the wood coming from balsa cabin :D
sorry i've no photo's of the jig i don't know how to get the photo smaller for the forum :?
-
download a free programme like http://www.irfanview.com/ which allows you to resize using: Image > resize/resample and set the longest side to 650
-
Just load the image into Microsoft paint. Then go into image and resize. I think the maximum size picture the forum can take is 650x650 pixels.
-
Bit cold in the garage.........AGAIN! :(
Worked on the KA-3 on the dining room table. Cut the ailerons free from the wing and added 10mm facing
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/billscottni/ail%20facing.jpg)
