New glider joined the workshop!
This time, a small one. A very nice mini (1.8m) ASW15 from Silence Models in France.
Build is going nicely, and after a day's work, ready for covering! I'll upload more photos, but here is one of the kit :)

Great work Fred. When do you plan to fly it?

Yeah Fred, when do you plan on flying?

Alright, finally bite the bullet and did the nose paint on the ASW15.. And I have to say, I am proud of my work! :-*
That is maybe the first time I manage to paint something without making a mess! I am useless with paint, but, if you have the right tools, everything goes together like a dream!
First thing first, the masking tape!! I used plastic model masking tape. It is not paper, but a sort of vinyl with very sharp edges. It is flexible too, so the curves are relatively easy to do.
I used the 9mm one, but I am going to stock that tape!!
Then, the paint... And I could not find better than the Lidl Acrylic spray paint. That thing cover everything really well, dries quick and it's durable! Oh, and dirt cheap for a result that ended better that with paint that cost 10 times that! (believe me, I tried!!)
So, here you go, my experience with paint, and after all these years, very very happy with the results, and for once, can't wait to do more painting!
On the photos, the edges are dead sharp, what you see is the light reflecting on it.

Nice work Fred.

Great paintwork Fred - very crisp. Where did you get the tape? Cool the way you can curve it.
-
Thanks all. I have to say, I am pleased to have found that tape/paint combination! :)
For the tape, I used that one: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/hobby-12mm-masking-tape.html
Same as the Tamiya tape, but half the price. They do it in 9mm and other sizes also (I used the 9mm one for the asw15)
-
And first flight done for that one! :-*
Strangely enough, I was expecting it to be a handfull, like all smallish gliders, but not this time!
She does fly like a 3m glider, very weird. We had 4 at the slope, with 3 first flights, and we all agreed. Very very nice in the air!
I just need to work on the breaks, as when you put the ailerons up, you loose almost complete authority on this axis. Once you know, it's OK (use rudder), but the first landing attempt was a bit of a surprise!
I flew like this for the rest of the day, and all landings were fine, but I have change the up settings to be 50%, not 100%, so that gives me 50% ailerons to play with.. We'll see how it goes on the next sortie :)

Congratulations Fred!

Thanks Sverrir :)
