Thought i'd make the first post here;
I know it's a long way for most of you from the South, but NIMSA has a fulll programme of thermal events throughout the "Summer ?" months.
Full schedule on the events page at www.nimsa.co.uk.
Last Sunday was the Area Open Championships, 4 rounds of 8 minutes with a discard, followed by the top two scores having a 2 round fly off, which was closely fought. full results on the Nimsa website
DLG also seems to be taking off in the North, with quite a few people building the dl50 as a starter model. There are also a few blasters around as well as the odd o/d.
If anyone wants info on thermal events, drop me an e-mail
-
fingers crossed for this sunday

hope to see you all there :D
-
Forecast is showery at the moment, so keep the fingers crossed

Hi Bill, bother Dad and myself are planning to join you on Sunday for our first attempt at Flat Field gliding. Please be patient with us country folk.
Richard
PS Is it ok to bring the Blaster ?

Blaster's fine Richard. There'll be time after the comp to get it in the air. Do you need directions?
-

i think you'll like the thermal flying and the crack will be mighty
bill, sam, tommy, jimmy, frank, paul, ronnie and mike are all good chaps and will help on the day :D
you'll be made feel very welcome
-
Hi Bill and Andrew, I am looking forward to this new experience.
Bill I got your email but was unable to open the direction file.
I will google the playing fields and work from there.
Andrew has pointed me in the general direction.
Roll on Sunday !!!!!!!
Thanks all
Richard

great day out today at the area open thermal comp today
i think there was 13 competitors and some great flights
i'm sure bill will post the results on the website
we had a few new flyers today and they all flew well
well done to richard reggie and john first class results in the first comp
and well done sam on winning by just 1 point from tommy
-
Andrew's right, an excellent days flying! I had a bad start when I started to set up my model and found that my tailplane was damaged and I wouldn't be able to fly in the comp! Had to resort to being my usual dictatorial CD
As Andrew says we started out with 13, Frank had a problem , folding a wing on launch, putting him out in round 2. Louden and his two grandsons were all flying the same model and unfortunately at the start of round 4 it too folded it's wings. I think Louden had plenty of work from it as he built it in 1961!!.
So after 4 rounds, it came down to the 2 man fly off between Tommy and Sam. Sam won by 1 second in 16 minutes of flying, equivalent to 2 points!!
Tommy 1998
Sam 2000
An excellent days flying and nice to see Richard, Reggie and John P enjoying their first experience of thermal competition and winch launching.
I will get round to posting the results on the NIMSA website, but too tired tonight

What a first time experience for both Dad and myself to fly in the Northern Ireland Thermal Competition.
We both are hooked
Thanks Bill for making the event so special , it takes alot of time and hard work to arrange competitions.
Now my old mate Andrew !!!!!!
He is the man that is responsible for supplying 2 gifted gliders to me and Dad , thanks my friend, next year maybe the results will be different lol
My first flight was a 7min 59sec ! now if I never flew again I was tickled pink on achieving such a great time ! Next 2 rounds I flew crap ! I blame trimming issues lol Last flight I bumbled out of lift , blaming flying directly over my head and neck pain lol. It is a blame game for bad flying.
The final fly off was very exciting with both Tommy and winner Sam showing us their skills ! Well done to both of them. Both winners in my eyes.

i'm going back to the albratross this year for the 100s, i'v taken a real dislike to my algebra :(

I've got to get something built! Think it'll be a glassed foam wing and a basic fuz
-
This year has been so bad that we're short of results. I've asked the council to book us two extra dates on 7th & 21st of October 2012. Hopefully we get them and get some flying done. :?:
Both dates will be Open Thermal & Electric events

nice one bill :D bet the weather will be good in october
-
First of our 2 extra thermal events was done today. Great weather and a reasonable turnout. Lift was fickle making finding & staying with it very difficult. We also used the clubs new Height Limiters for the first time today. They certainly balanced out any power advantages and made for more of a soaring competition
Open Thermal was won by Paul Freeman and Sam Phenix won the electric

2020's events; Always check before you travel!

NIMS has a full calendaar of events planned for 2021. Fingers crossed we get to run them all

Bill. I have taken my Easy Glider out to Brinny a few mornings lately with Ralph. The cold weather incentivises foam and electric I think! I can get a good forty minutes out of a 3S 2200mAh battery with power to spare but with multiple climbs needed. She isn't the best floater in still winter air (or maybe its the pilot!). Ralph's Radian does better I think. Fred gave me a 2S pack which I must try out to see if the reduction in weight helps. What do you guys typically fly? I presume a good mix of model types? I would be interested in something electric that performs better, preferably not foam....
Happy New Year by the way.

Hi Kevin,
We're flying everything from 4m fully moulded (expensive) down to electric versions of the 2m RES models a la Ralphs PuRES. Still a few Radians around which bang for the buck are hard to beat. There's a few Hoellein Insides (full house, 6 servo wing) and a couple of folks now getting the Introduction which is the RES version of the Inside. Comes in around 170 Euro. The 2m RES are nice models to fly
