Picked this fuselage up at the weekend it's a 1/4 scale  Slingsby Skylark 3B it's from the John Elliot plan and has a wing span of 177"
unfortunately it came with no wings but my plan is is to strip the paint off the fuselage, strip the tail and rudder and build a good set of wings and hopefully turn it into this

That's after i finish the K13 and Titan tow plane

stripped the tail and elevator this morning they were covered in solartex and it had been painted twice yellow then silver
the tailplane is 34" long so for transporting you would have to unscrew it every time so i'm thinking of putting a good mini servo or two mini servo's into the tail and this would make things a lot easier  :D

started stripping the paint from the fuselage looks like there was three layers of paint red, yellow and white i'm not sure wither or not the white was a primer

Is that a wood or fiberglass fuselage Andrew?

fuselage all stripped, gave it a good clean with soap and water and wire wool to clean off all the paint remover
there's some areas that need filled so that'll be the next job and then i'm going to spray it with primer and rub it all down  :D  well that's the plan 8)

hey Jumbo i'm trying to stay away from red and yellow so this is the first picture i seen of the Skylark

i've filled some of the bad spots on the fuselage then i'm for spraying it with a primer and then rub it all down before giving it the final coat will say it'll be after christmas before starting the wings  :D

been searching for info on the Skylark

i now know it's a type 43

and i'm liking this colour now  :D  :D

spent the day inserting a servo into the tailplane, the tail is 34inches long and this will make transporting it more easy

i've used a Corona CS-239HV thin metal wing servo

tailplane and elevator now need a good tidy up before covering  :D
fuselage is now ready to be primed and then rubbed down  :D

Hmmm, coming along nicely Andy. From what you've written I assume it's a three section wing, so does the centre section have any dihedral? Is it going to have flaps or air brakes?.......I don't know what the full size Skylarks used. Actually, according to my misses, I don't know much about anything. In fact,...... I used to own an encyclopaedia Britannica but I got rid of it it,.....my wife knows everything!

By the way, I must say I'm very impressed that you have your heating on already, (it's only September), you're obviously a rich man Andy. (Says the Keithy as he warms his hands over a single candle. :(  Brrrr..... )

    heat at the minute is just a small blow heater you have to remember I live further North than the rest lol
Yes the wing is in three sections and the centre does have some dihedral and it has airbrakes top and bottom of the wing  :D
Ordered the wood yesterday mostly all spruce stripping and a few sheets of 1/16 balsa
The outer panels have 1/2" of washout on each tip so that'll be fun  :!:

Looking good Andy!

Keith you're always welcome for a visit to the warmness of geothermally heated houses, you could even see some Aurora Borealis as a bonus (https://www.facebook.com/sverrir.gunnlaugsson/media_set?set=a.10152265904139851.1073741834.642559850)!

Oh wow!....pretty impressive pictures Sverrir.

Funny you should mention the Northern Lights, they're one of the things on my “Other-Half's” bucket list. I might send her over to Iceland and then I'll get a few days peace, Ha!

BTW Love the little bit of 'lens glow' to the right of the street lamp in the picture you posted. It looks like part of a shadowed planet. (That was a lucky snap, wasn't it!  )

certain times of the year you can see the northern lights on the north coast of Northern Ireland and they were spectacular in Shetland when I used to travel there for work

Na, I wouldn't wish Mandy on Iceland, after all Iceland has never done me any harm! Although,.... flights are a lot cheaper to Iceland than to Norway.

On the other hand,.......she's never been to Scotland either, so maybe we should give that destination some thought? :?:

Keith, you need to bear in mind Scots & English don't exactly mix well!!

You & me are the exception, but then we have the good sense to fly gliders

Nonsense Bill! I've had the pleasure of meeting many Scottish men and women, (one of my sisters-in-law is a Scott) they're charming people, yourself included of course.

Call me naive if you like but I've found that with goodwill and by concentrating on similarities and respecting differences all nations can get along.

Human Beings have lived on this planet for the past 50,000 years. Although I haven't been around for quite all of that time it seems to me we could only have survived by mutual cooperation. History is an important part of life,  but the idea is to learn from it, not necessarily to repeat it.

The Keithy will step down from his soap box now................. :D
