Hi all, tis very quiet here, it is next weekend we are all going to Mount L???
There are 5 of us traveling from Cork on Sat, anyone else?
See you Sat
Ralph
-
Four from the North Ralph
-
no one from the limerick area i'm afraid. hope everyone who does go has a good time
-
I'm not sure the weather is going to be good. But I think I will go anyway. They have been wrong about the weather before.
-
Weather for weekend looks good now! According to x c weather, winds in the morning 15+mph droping off later in the day, need 20+ for big b52?
-
Yes John, seems like the winds will be blowing a little bit for us this weekend, although may be a few showers as well, just to cool us off on Saturday.
Sunday appears to be offering the strongest winds and onto the west slope, that‘s good!. Possibility of some 4 axis flying I think, :D …….I’m expecting great things from Fred. (France being the home of such things. )
One thing seems for sure, it’s gonna be a little on the cool side up there on Big L. this weekend. So thick woolly jumpers and a willy warmer  will be the order of the day I think.
For anyone who doesn’t have it yet, this is the site that will give you a real time view of weather on the mountain.
http://www.ihpa.ie/index.php/weather-all-in-one/246
Looking forward to meeting you guys for the first time this year. (It’ll make a change from flying alone.) I intend to be on the slopes from about 12 - 1pm,……………..er, no  ….what I mean is I intend to arrive at the slope between 12 and 1pm on Saturday.
K.
-
Looks unlikely I'll make it :(
Likely to be working much of the weekend.
Booooo!
I was really looking forward to seeing how that Quark flies!
-
Come on Aidan, work will wait until Monday !!!!!!!!!!
I am preparing the models and batteries today for our road trip.
Andrew is travelling with me and he has at least a 5 1/2 hr drive.to Mt. L, and the forecast is 10-15cm of snow on his road to my home.
He is a brave man.
I am getting thursty for so mad French flying lol.
Roll on 5am in the morning.
Richard
-
Meeting JP at his house at 7am and then heading on down.
We should be on the hill 10.30 - 11? :D
Alarm set for 5.05  :!:
-
Any snow forecast for Big L??????
-
Come on Aidan, work will wait until Monday !!!!!!!!!!
I wish it would!
I might make it for just an hour or so on Sunday morning - not sure.
This is a 2 day event, yes?
-
yes Aidan, two days
-
starting now to get things ready for the journey tomorrow morning
i'll be up around 5am and set off for Dungannon around 5.45am hoping to be there for before 7 get the models into richards car and off we go :D
looking forwards to meeting everyone :D
think the snow's forcast for my end of the country so hopefully i'll be leaving it behind me
-
No snow forecast for here Andrew, but almost certainly some rain showers. :( (Hell, it’s only H2O right?)
Winds appear to be a little unpredictable but generally southerly on Saturday. (That will be the slope in front of the Nine Stones car park.)
Today we are experiencing storm force winds here in Co. Wexford :D , alas the mountain has been cloud covered so no flying, :( ……let’s hope for clearer weather tomorrow.
Here I’m running around trying to find a battery for the only PSS model I posses. I know I’ve got one, just can’t find it! :!:
I don’t know who, from the Lienster area, is coming. I assume Fred is, but apart from Alan who’s unsure, I’ve heard nothing from anyone else. It would be a little ironic if the only people to show up from Lienster were an Englishman and a Frenchman, Ha!
Keith
-
thanks for including us in your count!
|Ralph :(
oops, i just read it again,
see you tom Keith
-
Ralph,……you guys are from Munster,………aren’t you???
-
hence
"
oops, i just read it again,
see you tom Keith
"
-
Ahrr,…….It’s probably my fault as well Ralph, I shouldn’t use so many commas and incidental comments. (Too old to change now :( )
-
Hi there,
Sorry, loooonnng silence, but I'm back ! :D
Gliders and PSS are charging!
For the Quark, I bring some epoxy, we never know! Hope you can come Aidan to give it a go :?
Anyway, I'l should be up there for 9~10 ish and will set camp to the best place for the day.
Richard, John, Bill, Andrew, let me know when you hit the M50... We might do the road together :?:
Time to book the B&B!
-
I've got the batteries on charge as well. I'll probably be there on Sunday. It looks like that will be the best day. What time will everyone be there on Sunday? I'll try to be there around 10 or 11am.

Boys from the Frozen North are staying at the bottom of the hill, so will be up the hill early Sunday Alan
-
Time to book the B&B!
Think John booked us all individual rooms Fred, so there should be space if you're struggling Fred
-
Bit of a mad scramble here trying to get the U2 ready. Have new wings and tail to go on it. Covering tail and gluing in servos at the moment.
Will be over tomorrow afternoon and sunday morning as well i hope. See ya all there :D
-
Alright, called the B&B...
Looks like some guys from NI booked all the rooms! :P
Can I share a bed or a room with one of you guys ?
Don't mind, I can always drive back home, so not to worry! :D
Fred - Veeeerrry organized! :P :P

Hi Everyone,
I hope to be up at Mount Leinster on Sunday. Just putting the finishing touches to the repairs of my Typhoon, it took a bit of a hammering the last day I was out before the winter set in. Lets hope for some breaks in the weather.
Best regards,
Fergal :D
-
Looks like four coming up from Cork Fred. My first visit to Mt Leinster. Have packed the woolies. Ralph driving. Am tempted to spike my coffee with something to keep the chill out....... :D
Kevin
-
Cheers Bill :) We'll see tomorrow anyway :)
Good to see you tomorrow Kevin ! Long time no see! :D
See yu all tomorrow / Sunday! :D
Fred - Still looking for his ASW15 elevator! :?: :!:
Ah well, It's PSS day! :D
-
I booked four rooms, therefore, Fred no problem, each room has two beds I think, so if anyone else needs a bed lots of room.
See you all tomorrow!
-
Snow is still falling here in Dungannon, we have had about 3-4cm on the ground over night.
Andrew is battling the snow as I type , and should be with me in an hours time.
We maybe a little late , but better late than never.
If the men in the white coats knew what we were up to, I think they would lock us up
Richard
-
Never mind the snow Richard, nor the ‘Men in white coats,’ (are they any relation to the ‘Men in Black’ do you think?) I can assure you of a very warm welcome down here in the rather wet but slightly milder South East where the temperature is continuing to rise. :)
I see the webcam on the mountain has stopped working :o ……………..I can see the mountain from here and it’s completely cloud covered at this moment. Hopefully it’ll clear before too long. :)
Talking of the webcam site, it’s showing Northish winds at 50+ Km/h. That will equal a LOT of lift, WOOOPEEE! 8)
Hope you've brought pleanty of ballast with you. How fast are your reaction times Richard??? :P
See yo’all up there.
Keith
-
Just had a text from Joe, he asked what Big L. was looking like now.
This is the picture from my place, (25Km south east of the mountain)
The Mt. should be clearly visible on the horizon above the “Yeald” sign. So don’t hurry too much guys, it’s going to be a while before there will be any flying up there.

-
Still home minding the baby!
Leaving now!
See you at around 10.30!
-
The weather looks great tom, thinking about a solo run in the morn.
Keith, will I throw in the model if I travel?
Hope to see you tomorrow
Ralph
-
Hey Ralph, I’d be very interested to see that model. I’d particularly like to see how it flys. So if you are coming back to the slope tomorrow and you fancy throwing it in the car that would be great.
I’m looking for something about 3 - 4 mtr very areobatic that can ‘Beat up the sky.’ I’m not too worried about its speed, and appearance doesn’t matter to me at all. I can’t promise to buy it off you Ralph but I’d certainly be interested to see how it flys. If you don’t want to return to big L. tomorrow then don’t worry,………maybe the next fly - in…….I’m not in a mad hurry to buy anything…I’m just waiting for the “right” plane to come along….if you understand what I mean!
Looking at the forecasts, and going by a feeling in my bones, I recon tomorrow could be a good day weather wise, although I suspect that the wind might not be too strong. I intend to arrive at the slope around 10 - 11. Hope to see you if you decide to come.
Oh, one more thing Ralph. If you do come, bring a foamy that we can use as target practice will you
Keith
-
What a difference a day makes!
Here’s a picture of Big L taken a couple of minutes ago. Mt. Lienster itself has just the smallest wisp of cloud over the very top, covering the radio mast. All the slopes we use however, (which are on the far side, ) will be clear of cloud. That’s Good!
What isn’t so good is that the wind speed is Zero!
All forecasters are predicting the wind will pick up to some degree around 10am…….let’s pray they’re right.
Keep your eyes on the Mt L weather site.......the weather data seems to still be accurate even if the camera isn't working.

Looks great Keith. I hope to be leaving Naas at around 9.30am. See you all there hopefully.
-
Hi Keith,
woke at 5.30 and went back to sleep afetr seeing the wind or lack of it, maybe another day.
Enjoy all
R
-
Okay Ralph, not sure when or where the next glide - in is,………..see you there anyway.
(Fancy going back to sleep at 5.30,……the day is just beginning. Lazzy ba*****d! )
Keith

Well that was, without doubt, one of the best days flying I’ve had in a very long time. :D :D A fair breeze created good lift, and when the sun came out it took some of the otherwise cold chill out of the air.
Many thanks to all who came, including those who didn’t get much flying on the Saturday.
Peter (shamanisko) from Roscrea came and joined in the fun,……..(actually lads we’ll have to keep an eye on this guy,….. he’s good…….. and flys a very mean Fox.) We also had a visit from a newbie in the form of Rob who’s a member of the Model County Flying Club and brought a powered wing to see if it would fly in a spot of ridge lift. It did, and I think we may have another glider pilot on the making.
Commiserations to poor Andrew, who ‘lost’ a very nice model to the trees behind the landing area of the west slope  . He, and a few others did manage to retrieve it eventually, but caused some damage in the process. At least you got it back Andrew, you’re a braver man then me for climbing up that tree.
All in all a very good day……….I know that because my legs are aching now,……I didn’t notice it when I was on the mountain.
I'm sure other members will be posting thier picies and views of the weekends events, so I'll say no more other than a big thank you!
Keith

That was a good days flying alright. A pity it was so cold some times when the sun went in. If it had been a bit warmer it would have been perfect. Here are some of the pics I took.

great weekend
thanks guys :D
-
Sorry, a bit late on that one  , but once again, thank you all for coming, with special thanks to the guys who come from far away, like Cork and NI to participate to the event
Well, boys fly planes, men do slope soaring! :P We actually manage to check that was true on Staurday, when rain, sleet, strong winds, did not stopped around 12 pilots to try to fight the elements for some flying!
Eventually, nature won when the clouds we were flying in all day got ticker! We then moved slightly below it on the West Slope for a bit more flying before calling off the day. Nobody died frozen, but that got close! :P
The next day was glorious! With sun, West winds, and again, around 10 pilots
Everything flew that day, PSS, gliders etc (even a cheater if I remember! :P ).
We also had a good display from Keith and John with the Vector + smoke canisters  Red, is definitively the colour to go with! Nice to see something different, that was fun, and we had a good laugh!
As the day goes, the conditions were even better (burnt my face by the way!).
A bit of a pain for Mr Wallace to land in a tree for the "last one of the day" :( but the glider was recovered in a team effort from those branches. Damaged glider in the process, but nothing too serious.
Talking about crashes etc, now I think of it, I don't think we had any broken gliders this week end ? Nice considering the numbers of flights we manage to do in the 2 days!
Another great sight, was John's DreamLiner. Looks really good in the sky! Watched the video quickly, and that's scale flying!
Once again, lots of things to say, but better to come and live it with us! :P
Once again, thanks a lot for all the guys that attended the meeting!
I try to pull the photos from my camera later!
-
Hop, recovered my photos! :D

Unfortunately at the end of the day, Andrew tree'd his Flamingo but it was recovered, as he climbed a fair way up a TALL pine tree and shook it until the model dislodged. It was fine when it left the tree, but the ground intervened! :x

Hi all, thanks to the Slope Rebels for a marvelous weekend !
I have some fantastic memories from both the flying and Saturday evenings entertainment
Richard
-
Hi All
I has been my first time that i met you guys and I have to say - it was funtastic!!!Im just bit sorry that I coudnt come on sat aswell as I was so looking forward to see som of the pss models flying, specialy the Dreamliner and other, but well..there is always next time :D
It realy does make a difference to fly along somebody, and it is a welcome change form flying alone, so count me in for next time.
Only downside was that I forgot to tighten the aileron pushrod on my new cularis :!: and it came off after first landing so I could not do a second flight :? anyway... needs a bit of trimming but it flyes well.
Thank you all for the warm welcome on the slope.
Peter
-
Cau Cau Peter, it was very good to meet with you at Mt. Leinster, I really enjoyed watching you fly your Fox.
It was a shame that your pushrod came off on landing your new Cularis, it is a very nice flying plane.
Anyway think over a trip up North to fly with us on the 16th-17th of April.
Weather permitting it should be a fun weekend.
Richard
-
Glad to meet the NI Division on the slope on Saturday, at least you got some great weather on Sunday to fly. Will hopefully make it up to you for the fly in.
best regards,
Anthony
-
Great weekend all. Nice to see ya all again. Thankfully the weather was kind to us on Sunday at least. Thanks for sharing the photos. Might see ya again in April. ya never know!?
-
Hi Everyone,
I would like to thank everyone for making Sunday a grate day. I had only flown once in the past few months and was really rusty. It was great to get some nice flying in good lift. And even nicer to home without having to do some repairs.
Looking forward to the next fly in.
Best regards,
Fergal
-
hi Fergal
thanks for helping me get the model down from the tree
i carried your wind sock up a very tall tree and it was useful
it was a great weekend and i look forwards to returning to mount leinster soon :D
-
Hi all,
just thought id take peek between college work to see how you are all getting on over there and looks like im missing out! Plenty of cold but happy faces I see and lots of models too! Successful weekend then, though im sure Fred was happy I wasnt there and trying to go through one of his big scalies :D I will never forget those piloting skills Fred! Hope she's flying well again mate, sorry about that. Great to see some images of Mt.L and all the usual faces, I really do miss the craic on the slopes at home, don't know when i will be back but hopefully over the summer sometime though work looks pretty non existent right now! The course is going really well though I ended picking probably the worst County to go sloping in! Essex is as flat as a pancake so i have resorted to buying a dlg to get get some kind of regular fix! It's in the post so should get it pretty soon fingers x'ed. I am getting some gliding in though it requires alot of driving to not really the best of flying sites which are crowed. Wow I'm missing those Slopes at home, you guy's really are so lucky.
Any ways I do hope you are all well and if any of you need a place to stay this side of the pond your always welcome and it would be pleasure to put you up and show you the Essex night life!!, we are only 20 minutes from Liverpool Street by train and the same from Stansted Airport in a bus.
Thanks,
ed
-
Hi Ed , we all missed you at the weekend !
What type of DLG have you decided to purchase ?
Along the sea wall at Canvey Island is a fun place to fly a DLG and that is pretty close to you.
You donot get great height but you can get up quite abit of speed and rolls etc, are no problems.
Great to hear from you,
Richard
-
Hi there Richard, good to hear from you. I ended up going for a Blaster 3 which I'm pretty excited about but was originally going to go with a PCM Mini Fireworks Q with ailerons but my 2.4 radio gear just wouldnt get in so just ended up going for a full size instead. I would have prefured a 1 meter to train myself to start off on till I got my confidence but hopefully it will be ok . Funny you should mention Canvey Island because i met the guy who compiled Slope Hunter a few weeks ago and that is one of the slopes he's mapped on his site. I havent been there yet but your right it's not that far. These are some of the other slopes i checked out which are a bit of a treck but doable . Walton on the Naze are small sandy cliffs near to me with a very nasty rotor, Thurnham Castle Hill in Kent which works pretty well considering it's not a big slope and always a good bunch there and then there are the South Downs which are in the Irish League but not quite  And Ivinghoe Beacon which is the completely other side of London Near Oxford which was the first slope I few at. Depressing to say the least, everybody was so enthusiastic about the slope but I couldn't believe how small it was! I had just come from Ireland with mega uncrowded hills to this!!. 2 years with possibly no slopes close by!!! All sorted now as I have scouted a few bumps closer to me that could serve as micro slopes and a chance to learn alot I guess about a different kind of soaring with dlging. Silly I never bought one at home though I was close to it, shame as I would have learnt alot from you and the Lads. How are you getting on with your DS Bird? any dsing, any video? Looks like alot of fun that ship, still very tempted! Hows the Vector? I see Hammond is starting up his own operation now, very exciting!

Hi Ed, I aint got a chancce to DS the Birdy yet !!!!!!!!!
You will love the blaster.
But be warned, they have very fragile wings.
I had mine out this morning before I went up to Slieve Gallion, winds were perfect for some light gliding with 14-18mph winds on the South East slope.
Just to make you sick ! a few pics,

Hope to be heading upto the mountain again today with JP.
Happy St.Patricks Day and enjoy your day what ever you get up too.
Richard
-
So how did you get on, on St Patrick’s day Richard? Good lift?
K.
-
Hi Keith, both John and myself had a thrilling St.Paddys day on the slope.
John flew his airliner and the modifications has made the airliner so so much sweeter to fly, John can fill you in on what he did.
I flew the Fox (as usual) but I added 250g ballast and it was fun !
Now for the fun bit, I flew the Birdy and for a small plane it rocks !!!!!!!!!!!
Hell it was so fast and the speed of roll rate was frightening
The winds were from the North/West and we were on the big slope!
Constant wind speed were 26mph and gusts to 30mph.
I hope to get some video footage of the Birdy the next time I have company on the mountain.
Problems with my camera ment I lost the video footage of Johns airliner.
I might get my helmet cam sorted out this week but gardening is top of the TO DO list this week.

So let me see if I have this right, Richard.
You’re in position of a rocket,………..and you want to spend your day planting daises!
Well, I guess there’s just no accounting for taste.
Glad John sorted his 787 out and I’m very impressed with you getting 250grms of ballast into your little fox.
As I’ve said before I tried everything I could think of to make mine “Go” but didn’t succeed. Well done you. It’s nice to have a favourite model that you can compare others to.
BTW what wind directions work for Slieve Gallion…….might have to toddle up there and take a look at your Birdy. We can compare roll rates. You with the Birdy, vis my Phase 6.

Hi Keith , Slieve Gallion is good for WEST, NORTH and EAST! The Southerly slopes are flyable but they are restricted.
The North and North West slopes are my favourite, the East small slope is also very good.
Clear your diary for the 16th-17th of April and join Fred, and travel up.
Fingers crossed winds and weather will be good for us.
I hope ,y Birdy will last until then lol
