Title: I'll show you mine.......If you show me Yours!
Post by: Happy Days on January 04, 2009, 13:33:52 PM
I don't know about you guys, but with such little wind on the slopes I'm spending more and more time in the workshop.
So I thought of starting a small topic on workshops,.........I'll show you mine and you show me yours, sort of thing. Just for a laugh

However, having taken all the snap shots, (All three of them. I've only got a little one! :( ) I then remembered I'd have to crop them to fit on the forum. It turns out that you can't see much at all :!:

Oh well, I've already taken the picies now, so what the hell!

In our house what is now my workshop used to called a bedroom. In fact we tend to refer to it as the Modelroom because although it has a worktable in there it also acts as a store for my little "fleet" of flying machines.

So this is the operating table where I give birth to, and later administer first aid. (Or open heart surgery!)
The shelves only had half a dozen items on them when I first put them up. I'll have to replace them soon with bigger ones. Yes, I know I should put the items in a logical sequence :!:
The glue's are all in much the same area but everything else has just stayed where I first put them.  (Know the feeling?) At least I know where everything is, even if nobody else does. And I know when "someone" has borrowed something and not put it back in the right place!(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/Happy%20Days/Cropped%20M%27room.jpg)

This recess is the old built in dressing table. An old bathroom cabinet with it's doors removed houses most of the "electronic" gear for my powered model. (Chargers, balancers, cables ect) With scrap pieces of timber on the left, spare parts tray in the middle and mains electrical tools (covering iron, hot glue gun, large soldering iron) hanging on the right hand wall of the recess.

Here follows the model rack, opposite the worktable, which holds all my childern. (Well, apart from a couple of grown men who, over twenty years ago, I held in my arms and who looked like a couple of pieces of chewed toffee.) (But I'd never say that to their faces now! :) )

From the bottom up:-

At the front of the lowest rack is the fuse, and just behind but hard to see, is the wing of my little Filip 400. A lovely little machine, with a "Band Aid" around the fuse to improve it's looks!  (NOT)

Behind the Filip, up against the wall is my ever faithfull, and newly recovered....Zagi

Moving up,-...... the non-covered wing of a Phase 6, and lying on top of that,....the 'new boy on the block' an EPP wing.....the Skua S-15 which is also in the process of being assembled.

Next are the wing halves, and above those, the fuse of my powered Pulse 60.

And right at the top, (hard to see because of the cropped picture).....the little girl who started it all for me just over 12 months ago.......the airframe of a Black Horse cessna.

So,............that's mine, are you brave enough to show me yours? :?:
Go on,........You know you want to!

Good idea Keith !
I'll take some photos of mine tonight

Bit ashamed of it as it is really really messy !
And it's clean compare who my workshop was a week ago ! (holidays cleaning...  :!: )

Yeah, I think the rule of this thread should be that all picies show the workshops 'As Is' i.e. In normal state with work in progress. (No clearing up or placing all tools in tool rack   That's cheating!)

Alright so, I show you mine !  :P
No Shame !

View right from the door...

Oh yeah, forgot to mention... I spent a week cleaning last week...So this is as clean as it can get here !    When I cn open the door, it's a good sign !

In front of you, one of the 3mtrs workbench, reduced to about 50cms thanks to the mess ! :!:

More wings and fuselage...

And the door...

The tools bench... Jigsaw, belt sander (xmas present  :D ), Dremel etc etc, and soon, a pillar drill to be added to the lot  :D

The CNC corner...

Plotter and more gliders !

Corridor with All the big machine (front), wood stock (one of them!), wings on the wall on the right, and at the end, don't open the doors, but more gliders inside !

And that's it ! You know everything !

In total, I have 2x 3.50 meters workbench, + 2x 2meters ones (all on wheels) and about... ah well, when you love, you don't count !

I also have a shed... Maybe nearly half the size of the garage, full up to the roof of boxes and even more planes...

Big skip ordered by the wife in 2 weeks for a massive clean up !  :D

WOW! You are into flying BIG TIME aren't you

You need a bigger workshop Fred. In fact, I thing you should move your family into the garage, and use the house as a workshop! So many models!

Well I think you definitely get the priz for the biggest,  So far anyway.

Let's see who else want's to show us theirs

     > My God Fred. How do you manage to build anything in there?
Title: I'll show you mine.......If you show me Yours!
Post by: Fred on January 06, 2009, 14:33:02 PM
  Well, yes !
This is an organised mess !  :P

Usually, before starting something, I have do 1 or 2 days of cleaning to clear up one or 2 tables...But everything I build, come from this place :D
More place soon, as I should free up the shed in the garden, I will have space to store half my models in there !

A shed? :?  You'd need a barn to hold half that stuff!!!

Post by: Fred on January 06, 2009, 15:39:10 PM
Not that much really ! But thanks God for removable wings and tails !

Just imagine what I have in France now, after 22 years of modeling...My old house basically is a workshop packed with flying things... From a 50cms leccy plane (Guillows conversion.. I think that is the smallest I did) to a 7.5mtrs Asw22, and pretty much everything in between !
You'll see yourself in a few years time ! Your house will be packed !

Yeah, you figured that out, I was single at the time !    :P

Ok time to show you mine. It's in the attic so its not as bright as yours. Here's a view from the entrance.
As the attic is not insulated it also gets cold. Don't mind the -25, the thing is not working right.

Here's another view

I also have a Jigsaw

Here's where I store my models.

Finaly here's an image of the rest of the organised mess.

Hey Fred............. in the third picture of your workshop , hanging against a white wall, is the structure of an uncovered wing. Doesn't look like a glider wing,.....could it be that of a Spitfire? :?:

Well,

as Keith asked me, here are the pictures of my basement. It's warm there in the winter and cold in the summer. Perfect place to build modells of submarines, ships and flying wings.

This is the workbench room. Here I am building wings up to 5m span:

Another view with my lathe:

Here is the room beside, where is my hangar and harbour:

and a nice view on my CNC milling maschine:

It's not as clean as Keith's or Vincent's room, but cleaner than Fred's...

Regards

Lothar

Well,...............that's a pretty impressive set up Lothar. :D   I've never seen aeroplanes and submarines in the same workshop before. (In fact I've never seen a model submarine before!)

With that lathe and cnc machine I'm surprised you don't make model steam locomotives as well!

Very good

Its nice to see all your hide aways from the female boss, Joe you could hold a local dance in that workspace, and have room to park the band as well.  Here are a few pics of my hanger.

Bigger the workshop the bigger the mess John!. Although I would happily take a smaller workspace for more time to use it!.
It will have to turn into more house rooms at some stage unfortunately. Recession has put a hold to that. There are some good aspects to the economic downturn

John, that looks a very tidy workshop.  FULL by tidy,…….

Speaking truthfully,   is it normally that tidy? Or did you, like Joe, spend two weeks cleaning it up before you took the picture??

I wouldn’t mind a workshop like that…….I’m beginning to out grow mine. :!:

Hi Keith

Yes you are right, the hanger got a quick clean up before the I took the photos, most of the time, you would need a pair of wellies to wade across the floor with the rubbish laying around.

Hi Bill, you didn't tell your fellow pilots about the inspection pit you have in the middle of the workshop floor, for looking at the under side of the big gliders, can anyone beat that ?

Doubles as a swimming pool when it rains!

Folks who put it in didn't seal the sides and the groundwater leaches thru!
Have sorted it now with a Lidl pump and float switch.
