Title: Ply or Hard balsa
Post by: AndyB on October 10, 2020, 17:27:37 PM
Hi All,

Short stort long; Im testing out some build techniques and am sheeting some foam core wings. Im looking for some guidance as to what materials to use and where to source. Some of the build blogs Ive seen people are using 1/32 or 1/64 ply, but from my searching, this is very expensive (defo the 1/64) and prob overkill too. Is there an equivalent in hard balsa or something else, what do you guys think?

Each wing sections is about 750mm.

Hi Andy,

depending on the application either balsa or obeche veneer is used. Ply is very heavy and usually used in open built structures to provide strength.

Give us an idea on the application and we can chat further.
