The French Corner / Re: Voler secteur Clonbur Leenan Clifden

Thanks Ralph, unfortunately Achill is a tad far I'd rather fly somewhere in Connemara or South Mayo. Would be delighted if I could find a kindred soul to fly with me, there's a club in Headford that I contacted but they do not seem to do gliders. Looking at the IAA legal stuff it seems that if my planes are duly registered in France and I am also registered as an operator I can legally fly in Ireland.
To quote the IAA document:
Cross-border operations/operations outside the State of registration
In accordance with the principle of harmonisation across the EU, the regulations
make provisions for UAS to be flown in other EU Member States with relatively
minimal burden on the UAS operator.
➢ For the ‘Open’ category things are very straightforward and unmanned
aircraft can be operated in exactly the same way as they would be in their
‘parent State’ (i.e. no further contact with the IAA). Obviously, any
airspace restrictions that are applicable in the State where the flight is
being conducted must be complied with. The registration and the remote
pilot competence valid in the parent State are applicable, but details
should be carried at all times and made available to any enforcement
authorities, if requested.

I am enquiring with the French Federation Aeromodelisme regarding applicability of their insurance abroad.
Cheers

Je passe deux semaines à Clonbur en mai prochain, pêche mouche mais j'emmènerai peut être un planeur. Y a t'il des pentes recommandées dans le triangle Clifden Leenane Clonbur?
merci de votre aide

Slope Sites in Ireland / Glenveagh national park - Donegal
« on: May 21, 2022, 08:25:14 AM »
Hello all, I am from Brittany, typically flying at the Menez Hom location on Douarnenez bay. I will be staying for two weeks near lake Beagh at the Glenveagh national park starting end of next week. Though fly fishing is my main objective, I wonder if I should bring a glider or two? Any hint or recommandation welcome, thanks.

Hello, thanks for accepting me. I live in Brittany, not far from the Menez Hom mountain, a popular slope soaring spot. I lived in Galway a long time ago and still have friends in Galway and Clifden. That's how I earned my nickname. Typically I come to Ireland about twice  year for two weeks each time. Mostly fly fishing. This time I brought a glider since I took up slope soaring last year and went looking around Clonbur where I stayed for a suitable spot. The wind was light and easterly I did not see an obvious place. I am returning home tomorrow so it's a bit late now but I'll be looking for advice on where to fly when I am back around May next year. I'd love to find a spot in Connemara. All the best
Patrick
