Electrics / mugi evo electric
« on: April 12, 2015, 19:04:19 PM »
Just finished this model today, plan from here Mugi evo. The original is 800mm wingspan but I decided to scale it up to a whopping 1000mm  :o this model goes together really fast and even as quite a slow builder it only Took me about 4 hours. I could have done a better job but not getting too much time to hobby these days, lets hope it stays in one piece long enough to get a maiden flight out of her.

As there is currently an outright ban on spending model tokens in this house everything had to be made from already available parts. Construction is all 2mm correx and tape, 2836 1500kv motor, 40 Amp esc, 9 gram metal geared servos and a 50c 3 cell lip. It should go as I recently had this motor on a model twice the weight and that was quite fast

Here is a pic along with the instigator of said model token ban.

Hello all,

Haven't been active on here in the last few months but just wanted to give an update on baby Julia who turned 4 weeks old yesterday. Both mother and baby doing great.

Looking forward to meeting you all again in 2015.

Slope Soaring / Quark micro
« on: September 21, 2014, 18:05:48 PM »
Just finished this _little_ model. It is from Fred's original plan for the quark mini scaled by .55 wingspan came out at a hair under 850 mm.

The construction is all 5mm foam floor underlay with packing tape for strength. The tail surfaces in 3mm balsa. 4 x 5g hobbyking services and a 750mah 3.7 lipo (I don't have any nimh and the model is too small to fit a ubec). She is really light so imagine it is only suitable for  very low winds.

Looking forward to getting her airborne, I imagine such a small model will be quite `tetchy` as little Keith says so I may try to cram the orange 3 axis gyro into her (if it will fit). The build was quite quick took about a day and a half but was very fiddly getting the rudder and elevator push rods and servos installed. The aileron servos diiffer from the original plan as mounting them inside the wing would have reduced its strength greatly. The wing is of kfm3 design but with the step sanded smooth.

does anyone know how I can connect 4 servos to a 4 channel radio and power it. I tried cutting the positive cable from one of the servos and adding the power to where it was cut but my receiver (4ch frsky) didn't like it and wouldn't operate, my next idea is to look for somewhere on the receiver board to solder a power connector.

* sorry for the terrible photo  only have phone cam.

Slope Soaring / September fly in at the big L
« on: September 18, 2014, 09:53:25 AM »
So I haven't see a thread about the September fly-in yet (been checking the forum daily) and as I am not even a member of ISR it should not be up to me to create one

However I can barely contain my excitement, it has been far too long since I have done some proper sloping. What is the plan for this years event? Where are people staying (probably booked out by now)?

This year I am planning to bring the v-tail glider that was never finished for the April glide in. A `micro` quark that I have been thinking about recently and possibly the fpv wing I built sans motor and fpv equipment.

However the most pressing issue for me Is whether the BBQ is still going ahead? Do we need to bring our own sausages???????

Park Flyers / Foamies / Where to find/meet other flyers.
« on: January 20, 2014, 23:27:35 PM »
Hi all, I am new to the forum and this is my first post.

I have only been flying since March of last year but like to think I have done a good bit since then ;) I have a few ARTF foamies and have scratch built a blue baby, izicraft, zagnutz wing and numerous micro ~60cm wingspan planes, pushers and pullers, cambered, symmetrical, kfm and flat wings. You could say I have become a bit addicted to this hobby (much to my gf's disliking), I have also dabbled a bit in FPV.

I am getting a bit bored of just flying by myself all the time and wondering if there is anywhere where people get together to fly their electric foamies? I have been down to the Curragh and met the very friendly guys there, however they all fly big nitro planes and wouldn't let me fly without joining the club and doing some training. I may not be the best pilot but I think at this stage I have destroyed enough planes to know how to keep them up in the air, that and I normally fly 2-3 times a week solo (it helps working beside a big open field).

My latest build is a 3ch 65cm wingspan, twin boom polyhedral pusher with fpv using the walkera tx5805, its only a 25mw transmitter so not really expecting more than a 100meter range on video but I am thinking of putting a circularly polarized antenna on there to maybe push that out a bit more, I am also thinking of putting together a helical antenna for my groundstation.

So far I have never flown with anyone for more than 30 seconds, when I built my brother a blu baby (which he crashed and lost interest in). I understand some people just don't get the same buzz out of flying that I do.

Anyway if there is anyone out there in a  similar situation I would love to get in touch to chat about building or to go fly together.

Cheers,
Justin
