Club Talk / What was little, green, and made by multiplex
« on: June 03, 2019, 15:43:26 PM »
Originally purchased aprox ten years ago from a certain on line model shop in Ireland this little gem has survived untold numbers of 'unorthodox' (and sometime unauthorized) landings. Hundreds of charge and partial / total discharges. Temperatures of both Hot and (mostly on Big L.) freezing. Yet through it all, has given faultless service........until now. With the ability to charge a few hundred milliamps the time has come to bid 'farewell' to my old friend.

I was thinking of burying her on the west slope of Big L. with full honors and a possible flypast to salute all those years of sterling service shes' given me. But times being what they are I'm told she must be confined to the rather ignominious end of the local re-cycling center.

"Alas dear friend, I'll remember you well." Amen. :'(

Scale / Re: More about the Battle of Britain...in RC model form
« on: September 10, 2018, 10:28:56 AM »
There was very little about flying model aircraft to my mind. I think the producers were more interested in implying that by having German & British RC pilots flying the models they could somehow reproduce (re-live) the experiences of the life and death battle itself of which there is precious little surviving footage.
(From last nights program you could be forgiven for thinking that only British and German pilots fought the battle of Britian :-\)

The foamy PSS models had considerably high power to weight ratio than the full size machines. One seemed to be almost prop hanging while 'taking off!' ;D

Having said the above, I probably will watch the next episode. Though more in hope than anticipation!

Who else watched it?

Oh dear! Although maybe that was a little bit of divine justice for "cheating" ;)
Why let a piece of software stabilize the model when you can do it yourself!

(Could a grand prix driver claim victory in a race if he'd allowed his car was being driven autonomously?)

Where I came from in England we have an expression, "Bloody Hell  "
It's used when a person is suddenly confronted by something that is surprising and amazing. I looked at Solgun on my computer and said (out loud) Bloody Hell!  :D
I'm sure the last time we exchanged emails you were building a model of a Swedish sloop. ( Perhaps it was a model of Solgun? I can't remember.) But now you have a full size version. That is wonderful !
I assume you sail her wearing a while polar neck sweater, a captains peek hat and an anchor tattooed on your right forearm, yes? :)

Well, I'm very pleased to hear from you my friend Lothar! (My compliments to Heidi as well.)

I too think of you from time to time.  I have an old friend in England (David) who absolutely loves working with wood. Whenever I talk to him I think of yourself as I believe are also 'in love' with wood. (Although not as much in love as with Heidi of course!)

David has a wooden built workshop at the bottom of his garden and insists that he only works with quality hard woods, Oak, Teak ect. He always insists that he only allows "quality" (Hard) wood inside his workshop.
One day a friend of his walked into the workshop with some pine wood and asked David to turn them into banister rods. David raised his voice and said, "Get that crap out of here, I don't allow Pine in my workshop!"
His friend paused for a moment and looked around before replying. " But this workshop is made of Pine."
David couldn't think of anything to answer the fact, and just went very red in the face, Ha!

As for my old Land Rover, yes it still starts 'on the button' so to speak. Never lets me down. However it also leaks oil like a sieve, and when going up any kind of hill, it lays down a smoke screen that a WWII battleship would have been proud of! ;D

Good to hear from you again Lothar.
My kindest regards to you both,

Keith
