Cant find a Radio Gear section so I will post here.

Santy has decided I am getting a CMPro Discus CS.  
He thinks my skill level has advanced enough to handle such a beautiful machine.

I myself, am thinking of upgrading my transmitter. I have a JR Apex 5.
It works but is very basic.
Thinking of getting a JR X2610 so I can try programming mixing of control inputs and if I understand correctly getting the ailerons to droop or rise together to work as air brakes.

First
Do I have the concepts wrong?

then
Would I be making the right move getting this transmitter. Does anyone have good or bad things to say about the JR 2610.

Hiya Cha.
Yeah you can droop the ailerons together (flaperons) or raise them together (spoilerons) to work as brakes. You will need to mix in some elevator to compensate as well.

I use a Graupner MC 19 myself and am very happy with it. Not familiar with JR radios. Always thought they looked the nicest though.

My take on radios is. If you are committed to the hobby and you think you will be flying for years to come then, buy the best radio you can. You probably don't want to spend a good few hundred on a radio but, it will grow with you and handle all your needs in years to come.

So the modifying of the standard control inputs works anyhow. Thats a plus. At least I am thinking  the right way.
I suppose I should get a book on the basics and learn a a bit of tech stuff.
Any suggestions on a good book.

Now you have me thinking I should spend more money and get the JR2720 transmitter.

Hi Cha,

I think the JR2720 is also the Graupner MX12 ! ( Graupner don't make radios anymore... JR do that for them (Graupner/JR) so all Graupner radio owners have a JR radio in fact).

I don't know of any books about radios.. They don't do that anymore, but that use to be the case years ago. You might find some online, but not for "modern" radios, at least that I am aware of  :?: The best thing, is to study the manual. For the JR/Graupner ones, you have lots of examples and so on about programing, but the best, as always, will be to practice on a model (in front of the TV  :D )

I agree on what Joe say on top... Invest once in a good radio ! If you are commited to the hobby, that's the best thing you will do !
I have my MC18 for years (at least 10 now...) and still going strong.. Costed a lot at the time, but I don't regret it !  :D

Thanks for the info. Had a look at the manual for the MX12 and despite the text being in German (I think) the picture certainly looks like the JR2720.

I have had the JR Apex 5 for 17 years. It has, however, spent most of its life hiding in the attic.
I will start reading about 2720s. I think the funds can stretch that far.

This board is certainly a great facility.

JR2720 arrived on Monday.
Its a lot more complicated than I was used to.
But I am getting there  :?:

I have only just manager to get it to talk to the RX in my Fling.
It will be worth it though.
And Santy is bringing me a CM Pro Discus 2.65M.
Is'nt it a far cry from flying a CL Dominator in the Phoenix Park on a Saturday afternoon with the Phoenix Aeromodelling Club.

A Pro Discus 2.65!!

Is this the same guy who, just six months ago, said his heart was in his mouth when he had a flight lasting sixty seconds? and that he would NEVER fly in wind speeds above 15mph again :shock:
Boy, you've come a long way Cha :clap:

The Discus is very sleek and I'm told, very agile. You should be able to keep it up for a lot more than 60 seconds. (Er.....no sexual pun intended :oops: )
Throw in a JR 2720 and now you're playing in the big boy's league! :D

Hi Fred.
Sorry for the delay in replying. I was away for while.
The discus arrived but as it is a Christmas present , it was immediately put in to the attic.
Its not that I am strong willed its just I was told THATS what has to happen.

As for the Transmitter.it is a big improvement on what I am used to.
So complicated I actually had to resort to reading the manual.
Have done some programming for the Stargazer.
Mixing Aileron and Rudder. and setting up Dual Rates.
Still haven't been able to set up the ailerons as spoilers.
I have it deploying one aileron as a spoiler and the other working as an aileron.
If I was more experienced I might try fly it like that.
but then
If I was less experienced I might even try fly it like that.
Will have to set aside some time to sort it out properly.
