Hai 1 - A glider wich fits into a suitcase
« on: February 19, 2008, 22:30:21 PM »
Hi folks
I decided to join the Island Slope Rebels Fly In in Mai, however Ireland is just to fare away to take the car for a short weekend trip  . Thus the airplane is the only choice to get there quickly, and when it should be within the budget the cheep ones are the only feasible. However then each bag you take counts  thus to take a model airplane is somewhat complicated. After some research however, I finally found what I was looking for. A glider which fits into the following boundary conditions:
it has to be a wooden construction
a small glider which I can put into my bag
a glider which can stay strong winds and give you a lot of fun
a glider easy and quickly to build
    which is not to expensive

 whow, that’s quit a list, however I got it. It is the Hai (Shark) from Wolfgang Werling presented some years ago in the FMT, a German Model Airplane magazine. The magazine and the plan was already sold out, however via the internet I could get one. The short-kit is ordered and as soon as it arrives I will start the construction. So see you
Cheers
Stephan

I will vote for the electric version, because that allows me to use it in the plain too    ok, it is against the pure rule  of soaring

Ok lets start. Today my short-kit arrived, realy good service. I immediately put it to my basment and had a closer look. When I opened the parcel the parts were  nicely wrapped up in a bag

After unpacking, the parts are put together in the individual phases of construction

The parts are properly milled and some of them are alike the construction kits of childrens

and I was not able to wait, I immediately put some of them together, it fits realy well, and I just put some CA-glue where the parts comme together.
I also started the rudder fin right away

it's realy easy, in three steps its done

I red in the german forums that the fin will easily break so I will cover it with a layer of thin plywood and cut out the interior, as indicated in the plan.
Thats it for today, if there are to much errors in my english writing just correct me, I can only learn, because upright now I am not so used to the modell airplane vocabulary   :D

Good work, so far, Stephan!  That's a really neat looking model, and what looks like a cleverly designed kit.

Don't worry about your English - you're doing great!  If you can manage "vocabulary", you are doing better that 90% of the people living here  !
