1/3 scale Grunau Baby IIb
« on: December 28, 2016, 12:32:32 PM »
It's this time of the year again! :) new build for 2017, an enlarged version of my Grunau Baby.
So far, a no brainer, going together like a charm.
Later today, plan is to start on the fuselage.

Fuselage started!
A bit more advanced than in the photo (camera's full), all is going great so far, easy build :)

I was also building a tailplane today - this one belongs to a 1/4 scale Slingsby Gull.  Wings (in the background) and fuselage are well advanced.

Ok, progress! :)

Next step was to do the pilot's top fuselage frame. Everything is tacked in place, then glued.
Pilot installed to have a look and compare with photos. It fits, and it does look good!

A bit more work is also done on the fuselage. Elevator and rudder just put in for the photos.

The very front part of the glider is now drying, and more stringers were put on the fuselage.
Also, decided to change the top of the fuselage, at the back, from a 5x5mm wood by a laser cut piece. Much much better! (and easier to put in also!)
Tomorrow, hopefully, the fuselage will be ready to be sheeted! But first, I'll scratch my head for the servos / electronic and tow hooks implementations before closing it.

So far build is dead easy, happy!  :)

Thanks Ralph :)
I try to get the photos as close as possible to the subject, so you don't see the mess in there! :-[

Almost there for the fuselage!
Tomorrow, if all goes well, servos for the elevator and rudder.
Scratch head for the tow release, and maybe, start the sheeting :)

Can't wait to get cracking on the wings!  :-*

Ok, works continue!
Fuselage removed from its jig.
Battery tray done, just have to put the rudder servo / links in place, and the Tow hook, and I can start sheeting :)

And that free up the workbench for the first wing :)
