20/09/09 Thermal/electric
« on: September 20, 2009, 17:41:25 PM »
Nimsa's final thermal event of the year ran today. Here's a copy of the results.

Low turnout for a variety of reasons, 5 in thermal and only 3 in electric. Conditions were very changeable with some quite severe wind gusts and very little thermal activity. Only one flight I can remember getting away in lift. Open was flown over 4 rounds of 8 minute duration with a discard. Electric was 3 rounds of 6 minutes, 15 seconds motor run (all models being used were brushless motored)

Results are:

Thermal: 1st Frank Jackson
              2nd Paul Freeman
              3rd Bob McIvor

Electric:   1st Paul Freeman
               2nd Sam Phenix
               3rd Frank Jackson

          Congratulations to Frank & Paul

Thanks for postin Bill.
Was a beautiful day down here. Clear blue skies and light wind. If I wasn't babysitting I would have gotten my electric glider out. Sounds like conditions were a little more challenging you you up there.

I guess you could call it challenging. A brisk, cold wind. LITTLE patches of lift and HUGE areas of sink.

In the thermal, only a couple of flights got anywhere near 8 minutes and only 1 in the electric. Normally we would have several pilots within seconds of each other, not today.
