Anyone know of any composite courses that are run in Ireland. Wouldn't mind a bit of a crash course or evening classes. I know a little at this stage from making fuselages etc.. be nice to learn a few new tricks without finding out by making the mistakes myself. There is some good forum threads and stuff out there but it's hard to fine good DVDs and books in english. There are lots of German stuff to be found alright! Anyone??

Hey Joe,

I don't think you will find this kind of course in Ireland...
The only ones I know are made by modelers for modelers...

In English, have a look at Phil Barnes dvds and friends !

Education is important, but flying RC planes and gliders is importanter!

Hi Joe,
I've done a lot of composite work (by modeling stds for personal use).
I can help you out with most things.
When I was doing this there were no good quality kits for F3A to be had.
So me and a friend got into it and shared the work. A lot of work a lot. Ian made the plugs and moulds and I made the mouldings. We used epoxy, glass, kevlar, carbon with polysterine and then rohacell as compression members.
Ian had some years before that studied composites in college, he produced a composite motor cycle frame as his theisis project around 1980. So I learned what I learned from a master.A lot of what we did was done for the first time in models. I wont be getting back into it anytime soon but some advice is no problem.

On a similar note. Anybody know of a good supplier of composite materials in Ireland?

Shipping from Mainland UK can be expensive as some firms will only send epoxy by carriers.
