Retroplane 2008
« on: July 18, 2008, 22:27:20 PM »
Hi guys,
Well, finally back from France !
This time, that was a 3 days trip to get to the meeting ! :!:
But believe me, well worth it !  :D

A little year on the flying front, as we were in high mountains conditions... Most of the flyings were done in the morning, but then, clouds and mist from the sea prevented any safe flying  :!:
I managed to get some flying on the sunday afternoon on the West slope in thermals conditions with the big Ka3 (the biggest machine to be launched that day  :D  ) and we even managed ( I say "we" as Erwan was flying with me  :-$  ) to land without a scratch on the rocks !
Rocks, that was the other issue ! No grass over here, but good old big rocks all over the place ! I think everybody left a piece of glider on each landing !  :!:

Anyway, I think this year, most of the best Retroplane actions were not at the slope, but between us at the base camp !
What a year !! Lots of fun, 24/24 ! Yep, we even flew at night with gliders (thanks to the litres of beers and other less conventional beverages !  :P  :D  :D )... We have videos ! Shame ? Me ??    :P  :P

Here is a realy quick selections of photos from the camp and the view from the slope...
More will follow soon !!

Finally arrived ! After 12hrs of driving ! Empty the car and setup the tent !

Paul Ellis and his wife Maggy. A really lovely couple from the UK, now living in France. He brought the Guinness ! Shame I did not spend more time to talk

The camp on the friday.. More and more people were coming...

The now traditional fuselage display at the camps site ! Already impresive number, but mind you, not all the machines were displayed !

The main slope.. The Mediterrannée on the background...

That's all folks for now ! Stay tuned for more !

Looks like it was fun. I wish I could have been there. I see you have a new method of transporting your K3 Fred,  :P .

Wonderful gliders - detail on some is amazing.  But what an 'abrasive' slope!

Hi guys,

YEah, that was a really sunny day ! The Ka3 is light, but not that much after a while under the sun !  :P
Or getting lazy.. not sure...  :P  :D

You are right Peter, we've left a lot of skids on the mountain !
Finally, the slope in Achill is not that bad after all !  [-(

Lots of beautiful machines ! God, next year, this is going to be even better !

Less than a year now before the big day !  :D  =P~
