I bought loose lead shot off Ebay. Type of thing divers put in their weight belts nowadays. Wasn't too expensive and advantage is you can mix it with epoxy and pour it right up into the nose of the model, so weight is as far forward as possible.
I tape a plastic cup to the nose, put the model on the balancer and pour shot in to the cup until model balances. Weigh the amount needed and mix maybe 2/3 with epoxy and pour into nose. Remainder goes in a ziploc bag and gets put in the nose in the normal fashion. Can add or subtract to that until you're happy with balance, then epoxy it in properly

I do something similar Bill. Usually tape a mixing cup to the nose on a string and fill it with coins, then weight the lot once happy and cut the right amount of lead from a sheet I had, fold it up tight and install.
I have run out of lead so I was only this week googling fishing tackle shops to buy lead shot just as you described. I was going to gun in the lead with some silicone. Your method does get the weight right into the nose and epoxy would be best.
I’ll go on e-bay tonight and see what I find!

only needs enough epoxy to stick and hold in place. Too much gets hot!
