Misceleanous / Flying in a lake - Hydroplane.
« on: January 28, 2009, 10:11:48 AM »
Hi,

This last weekend i decided to see some of the nearby lakes around Dublin.
I can't recall at the moment the name of it but it was AMAZING!

After a moment looking into the calm clear waters i started to wonder if it's possible to fly a Hydroplane there. Is it possible? Anyone here does that?

Just wanted to know that as i really don't want to be breaking any rule.
I didn't see any billboard stating that motor sports were not allowed but never trust.

Slope Soaring / Ridge Runt
« on: November 03, 2008, 15:44:42 PM »
Hi all,

I've been looking at one of these models.
They almost gone and even the clones like RipMax Coyote are also very hard to get.
Thing is i collected some impressions and everyone seems to agree that it's a pretty fine model. Any comments on this?

Also i noticed in some places that it doesn't have rudder, could it be possible to put rudder without compromising the plane?

Thanks.

« on: June 09, 2008, 12:50:47 PM »
I decided to share some photos of this event that went last weekend in PT.
In one of the best slope spots to fly.

APSIA - Stª Iria Escalas 2008

A meeting for scale gliders, gathered 14 pilots and around 30 models all in big sizes.

.Main View

.The "oldest" one

.The first flight of the day

.The biggest model and the second place in the flight competition

.More models waiting...

.If you see someone with a hat and sunglasses then it's a pilot

.Great details

.This a 4.5Mts Pilatus all in wood and hand made

.Getting ready.

No more for now.

Park Flyers / Foamies / Where to get a ShockFlyer.
« on: April 18, 2008, 16:50:08 PM »
Hi everyone,

Can someone advise me where to get a Shockflyer?
I've been trying over several online shops i know but it's completly insane!
The last one asked me £40 to £60 for shpping a thing that costed £19. :(
Another one simply canceled the order i had made and said it was too much to ship the planes and that it was not worthy!

Thanks.

Misc / Did anyone used JB weld?
« on: April 15, 2008, 17:19:36 PM »
So this was a question from a friend.
Basically he wanted to know if this a good product and speccially to use with CF?

He build small indoor planes, under 20gr. :) And most of the time he uses carbon fiber rods and he's researching for building methods that result in both strong and light structures.
But on eof the problem has been how to glue well CF, CA does the jobs but its not perfect.

So the question is, if anyone has ever tried this glue or knows if it can be used with CF with good results.

Thank you.

And i leave here some links for some of his works:

Sports / StrangeBird 28''
« on: March 31, 2008, 00:12:08 AM »
Ok this kit has been with me for quite some time, but i decided to bring it here and here and finally start to build it.

I will not show the supposed final aspect of it, so that way if i do some mistake no one will notice.  8)

Starting to assemble the wing frame.

All the parts of the wing frame.

Build of the nose, yes this plane has a nose too.

Detail of the nose, those two parts on the photo will hold the third one that is mean to give support to the nose wheel. Steerable!

Side nose covering, some thin balsa is used to cover the sides. On those holes will pass a CF tube and the servo wires.

Final look of it today. Still alot to be done.

During the transpost to Ireland some weaker parts got broken. :( So i had to improvise and fix them.

Oh, and the rudder. I started by building this one and i almost forgot the photo of it. Well actually is the vertical stab because there will be no rudder on this plane.

Misc / What color schemes work the best!
« on: March 27, 2008, 11:38:45 AM »
I was always complaining that my wing had bad visibility, i know i don't see quite well but...
Due the fact the usage has made her lost some of the paint, not sure why!
And the contrast becomes less...
So i decided to change it a bit, in the last few days i removed all the fiber tape and put new one, and also did something else! :)
Put some stripes on the bottom, excellent idea i had it works really great.

So i ask, what colours, schemes had proven to work best to increase the visibility of the plane in the air. :)

I'll post here a photo of the wing later.
