Road trips / PSS 13/14th March
« on: March 14, 2010, 21:12:03 PM »
Hey Keith,

great Horten IX   Looks like easy built from Depron :?:  My regards to the builder.

All Your words sound to me like a great weekend. Is it still spring in Ireland? Over here it's all grey and the river went over the green I am used to fly, but NO snow.

Thanks for posting.

Hi there,

I was busy in finishing. The wings are covered and painted. Now I will concentrate on the center-sections. One will be scale and one with a Motor.

The pics are fresh from today (The snow too :!: )

Well Joe,

seems like You have a good compressed tour... Not a lot time for "private excoursions".
If You ever have something in Bremen, let me know... We don't have many planes, but a lot of Beck's....

Well,

after weeks of snow and Ice, I got a bit depressed and lazy. Yes, I was some evenings laying on the sofa.....

But today there was green between the the Ice on our airfield and I went out flying for some minutes. Afterwards I was really motivated to work on the XIV. I started finishing the wings. I painted them with some glaze from clou, that the wood will get the same red touch as on the XII above.

Thanks for all Your good words friends.

I hope to see some of You at the Wasserkuppe this summer. So there are people I can talk in a language I can understand :D

For Keith.... keep patient please. I believe in one of the next magazines there will be something about the small 2 m HXII. You remember her at Your airfield where we met the first time? It was a team work, so this article had to be written by the team. This took a bit time. But as i know Phil Gardemin, it will be a nice Article in the mag.

Hey guys,

sorry for not updating the thread for some weeks. I was a bit busy building the new H XII. She's waiting for days without snow, to make her maiden flights:

My Colibri also needed new wings after a bad receiver fault short after the Ireland trip. Another reason to stop the HXIV Projekt:

This one is also waiting for a maiden flight. Due to the weather over here, it's better to stay in the basement and working on the XIV.

So what did I do the last days:
I completed the experimental center section with a motor:

and glued the Multiplex Multilocks to the plane. This was a bit difficult, because of the unusual geometric arrangement of this plane.

At the time I am mounting the servos in the wing and afterwards I am  covering the lower side of the wing with 0,6 mm plywood. This is nearly done. Hope to be ready tomorrow.

Than I will have to wait for some new 2,4 GHz receivers.

I'll keep You informed.

Merry Christmas from Germany too.

found some nice new things under the christmas tree, because I laid them down there

....for example new wings for my Colibri....

Well, Christmas time is a very productive week, since our son is to old for all those sentimental things.

Regards to all of You.

Hope to return to Ireland soon.

Road trips / Cheapest/best/fastest way to Irleland with my van
« on: December 18, 2009, 21:41:32 PM »
Well,

sorry for my comments above. I just made a booking try and found out, that the Irish ferries are a lot cheaper than it was last summer, when I went to Ireland. So You have to calculate and choose Your own way.

But I aggree with Stephan, I love more the flexible way.

It's especialy cheaper to take the way via France if You go only with a car.

Well Fred,

I started at about 12.00 H on Sunday in Bremen, had a longer stop (3,5 h) before the ferry to England (Norfolk-Lines). Than arrived at Dover at 4.00 H Monday in the morning. I made a 4 hours stop near London, then drove to Pembroke and arrived in Killmuckridge at about 20.00 H Monday evening.

Please remember, I towed a Caravan with my car. So I had to calculate this 1.5 Days trip. I believe it should be possible, if You calculate 2 hours for the stop and go around London, to make the whole trip in about 24 hours with two drivers.

btw: It were about 1200 km to drive. I believe to the Wasserkuppe it should be about 300 km more.

However,

I made the trip last year, You marked on the map. I can say, it was the cheapest and the easiest way to go to Ireland. To drive to Cherbourgh costs maut for the Autobahn too. And the trouble with the ferry dates.... I strongly recommend the landbridge. I do it via Denmark also, when I go to Sweden or Norway. The long ferrys make Your timetable unflexible...

Ok. You have to touch England.....
