Title: Who is good at finding car parts? OFF TOPIC!
Post by: Fred on February 07, 2014, 11:25:14 AM
Sorry, a bit off topic, and I will clean that up after, but I am stuck!
I need to find a passenger side tailgate light for my Seat Alhambra (2002).

Can anyone help? Tried everything and everywhere, but so far, between ridiculous price (Dublin), no answer or follow up to requests  and "we don't ship to Ireland" (UK) I start to give up!

Anyone with connections, garage etc etc?
Need it to carry my gliders to the slope, so not all off topic really (that's my excuse and I'll stick to it for now! :p  )

Many thanks,

Fred

Don’t know much about car parts Fred, but if you know of suppliers in UK who wont ship to Ireland, I have plenty of relatives in UK. So If the supplier will ship to them, I can promise you they will forward it on to you in Dublin.

Email me if you want further info.

Thank you all  :D

Little Keith, I keep you in mind (well, all the time anyway  :P ) if I can't find something locally  :D

Ronan, yeah, tried to look in France, but could not find anything  :!:  :?:

Stephen, that is good news, I pm tall Keith  :D

And finally John, thanks, I tried eBay also, but usually, when I mention Dublin, we get a communication breakdown!  :!:  :!:

For the part, I need the inner light, the one with the fog/rear light

Like that one:

But the other side  :D

NCT failed on my car because the guy found a pin size hole in the plastic! Can barely see it! Everything else is top notch. Amazing reason to fail the NCT if you ask me!

Do they allow you to fill the hole Fred? Epoxy on a cocktail stick?.

Have you tried scrapyards & salvage yards?

Yeah, it’s almost certainly failed because the hole allows white light to be shone from the rear of your car.
I’d have though that the re-test would simply involve the inspection of the rear light, and hence no-charge.

You could try filling the little hole with a clear resin, or maybe hot melt glue, and use some nail varnish to colour it red with the best match to the rest of the red lens.  (All you need to do is to stop any white light being shone from the rear of your car.)

Hey Bill,

Yep, tried scrapyards etc, but some quotes came at around 80 euros!      In the UK, ranged from 20 to 40 euros...

Hey Keith, the hole is 5mm sq if even! On the second visit, put a piece of red translucent tape on it, about 1cm sq. The guy came in the car park, barely looked at it, said clever move, but no, failed!
I was not very happy to say the least! Looks like they have to make a certain amount of failed a month!  :!:

So, have to re-pay for a full visit, just for that! If that was something big etc, I would be happy to do it, but just for that, that is taking the p !    :!:

Hi fred, I checked scrap yards up here this morning and it seems the tail lights are really hard to get second hand.
The vw Sharon is the same light but the ford galaxy is different.

Thanks Richards.

I can find the part alright, just they don't want to ship over here  :!:  :!:

Is the Sharan the same? I tought it was square on the Sharan?  :?:

Hi Fred the guy in the scrap yard said they are the same.
If you knew some one with the same car as yours then you could borrow the tail light for the day !!!
I done this before lol

Not a bad idea!

Ok, I have checked, and they are different.
Slightly, one is square (Sharan), one is bevelled (Alhambra)

Hi Peter,

Yep, tried that, but they all said no. They don't ship to Ireland  :!:

Bill, that will be my plan B (see little Keith post earlier in the thread  :D )

I will always remember what the guy said before I left... "It's a very common car, parts are no problem"...  :x

Hi Fred,
Have you tried Rathgar Motor Factors 4909550 sometimes they can source cheaper replacement parts rather than paying for genuine spares, ask for best price.
John.
