this is the fuselage parts for one of Fred's Quarks :D
this is a smaller version at 1.2 metre's and the parts are beautifully cut from a range of balsa and ply wood
hoping to start on the fuselage soon and will take photo's as i go along
-
this is my work so far
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1885.JPG)
went round the outside of fuselage with 4mm balsa
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1886.JPG)
added forms 1,2,3 & 4
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1887.JPG)
all 6 formers now glued, i'm usually a white glue man but i've used thin cyano for this
-
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1889.JPG)
other fuselage side added and all squared up
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1891.JPG)
this is the servo trays and are beautifully cut to suit two mirco servos and the bellcrank for the elevator
-
Great :D
I don't know which version i would order :D
-
Slow Down!! :D :D
Very good start Andrew!
And I must add, without plan!
For the bellcrank, you should have 2 or 4 rounds in wood, to re-inforce where the rods are going(if you see what I mean!)
If not, glue some metal ones (the one for small screws), that will do the job.
Also, but you certainly already know that, install the elevator servo and bellcrank before doing the bottom sheeting!
Oh and the piece T1 (where the rudder is glued to if I remember) might be not wide enough!
Doesn't matter, as all that will be sanded round! (That's because I changed my mind about the way to cut the balsa strips at the end of the fuselage half way through! #-o
Anyway, good stuff, looking good!
-
Great :D
I don't know which version i would order :D
:P
Well, not sure if that one is going into production, not sure that will have a wide interrest...
But sound fun, micro VTPR glider that looks like a glider :D :P
Forgot to mention, wingspan is 1.2m.
-
very nice start
-
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1894.JPG)
made up the canopy today, put 3mm balsa round the outside edge and sheeted with 3mm balsa
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1896.JPG)
these 12 pieces make up the nose, there's 2 of them made out of ply and go in the centre and the rest is balsa
i'll glue these up tonight and and they'll be ready to glue on to the fuselage tomorrow
-
very nice
-
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1898.JPG)
the Quark with the nose glued on and the canopy made
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1902.JPG)
this is the rudder and fin made out of 2mm and 3mm balsa
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1899.JPG)
this T1 and Fred said it was a wee bit smaller than the fuselage i glued a couple of peices os balsa on either side but it will be sanded off when rounding the fuselage
-
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1900.JPG)
this is the trailing edge nicely cut from 2.5mm balsa
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1901.JPG)
and these are the ribs 11 in total and all 1/16th ply
the main spar is 8mm tube but the last two ribs are 6mm so i'll have to step down the carbon tube for the last two ribs
going shopping tomorrow for some carbon for the wings and tailplane :D
-
Very good Andrew!
I think the notches for the TE were cut to 3mm, instead of 2mm for some reasons (file is correct...). You might need a bit of 1mm balsa to glue the TE.
Very well done anyway, looking good so far!
-
lovely work Andrew !!!!!!!!!
I will test fly it for you lol
-
Aye and I'll video it :)
-
I will bring the black bin bag and kleenex
-
What lovely friends we have :P
How's the building Andrew ?
I checked my carbon and have only 10mm at my house. Will check the workshop and see if there is 6mm.
-
   you're all funny
good to have you on the forum terry
richard i'm looking for 8mm , 6mm tube and 3mm rod :D

-
will check what I have tonight and let you know Andrew. May have some 6mm, not sure about the rest
-
   carbon tube arrived today
this is the 8mm carbon tube reduced down to 6mm for the last two wing ribs
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1906.JPG)
trailing edge, ribs and spare all assembled
-
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1908.JPG)
balsa strip added on top 2mm x 10mm
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1909.JPG)
and 2mm x 16mm balsa on the bottom
take my hat off to Fred the tabs on the top of the wing ribs are a brilliant job for keeping the wing straight while upside down
-
brilliant job so far Andrew. Looks like it will be a really strong wing
-
Hi Andrew Fred sent up your plans !
PM me your address and I will post them to you.
-
Looking very good Andrew!
Almost finish then! :D Looking forward for the first flight of that thing :D
-
I am looking forward to test flying this little beauty
Your plan is in the post Andrew.
-
  good man richard
-
sorry guys i'm a bit late with the update and photo's
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1992.JPG)
all ready to go all up weight is 428g and it took 70g of lead to get the cg set
now i'm using the main spar for the cg but the weight could change after a few flights
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1994.JPG)
i'm using 4 turnigy tgy-1440a mirco servo's, a 350mah flightpower 7.4 lipo battery with a 6v regulator and an orange rx
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1995.JPG)
-
the last picture is how i keep the wings on i'm using cup hooks and a couple of pieces of carbon
(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/andrew%20wallace/IMG_1996.JPG)
and this is where the battery goes in the canopy
hardest part now is sitting waiting for the wind to come back to the north or west :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
the wait would drive you to drink
-
  Very good Andrew!
Love the color! :P
At this weight, this is really light! Pocket aerobatics in no air!
Can't wait to see report of the first flight! :D
-
Very nice work as always Andrew !!!!!!
If your off work today you should try the south slope of Bevenagh.
it is very similar to the north slope on Sl gallion, from the car park walk over the wee dam and keep walking south, once you get to the wire fence , low and behold one of the best south slopes in Ireland
I read Bill likes the colour
-
I read Bill likes the colour
Too dull, needs to be brighter and more pink!! :D
Phase 5 is going to be Yellow & white though
-
went for a run in the car and took the model with me i had a few idea's of where the wind might suit
but when i got to 1st Dunboe church the wind is straight east and there's nothing facing that direction even the gliding club don't fly in an easterly wind :(
-
looks great Andrew, like the colour
-
Fred this is some glider
thanks :D
can't wait to fly it again, the roll rate was brilliant and lost none of the forward speed, and i think i'll be able to take some of the lead out of the nose
terry's making me some decals for it
-

Hi Andrew, if you have an easterly try along the east strand at the Port !!!!!!
I have flown the blaster along the beach wall and it is mega fun in the sun 8)
There is also Ranmore head, but it is a cliff so no rescue if something goes wrong.
I intend to plot slope sites this summer along the North Antrim Coast.
It should make a great few days of fun flying.
If you and Terry are up to join me this will add to the fun. JP will be there of course
-
Count me in too if i'm available. No longer working Saturdays
-
richard would say you'll have more than just me and terry next year :D
looking forwards to it already :D
-
Great News Andrew !
OK back to Quark, and I am still awaiting my carbon tubing.
It has been lost by TNT ! reordered it from another company and the bank transfer is not showing up on there system.
Can anyone do their "peep" job nowadays ,
-
Alright, I'm back! Sorry for the long silence, mad week!
Congrats again Andrew  So, where are the photos and videos! :P
Mountains started to get covered in snow here... I'll be off a few days next week, might get some flying time before the roads close if the snow continue to fall!
-
We are also suffering snow on the Sperrins so Christmas maybe a time to eat drink and be Merry lol.
Will post a pic or 2 of my 2m Quark fus !
Just the Rudder to make and fit, I have changed the amount of throws so need to build a new rudder and stab to allow for 75 degree throws
-
75 degrees!
That should be enough :D All up for crazy aerobatics then :D
-
Yip Fred it is do or die time lol
I have some really sweet manouvers that I would like to try with the Quark Glider,
I am having really bad luck in getting carbon and this has held my build up. first the carbon was lost now I reordered and the payment has dissappeared into cyber space.
Dealing with banks is a tricky business, no one can give me answers and today I get an 8 page form to fill out.
I have 30m of solar film , 100 servos and 50 carbon tubes in this order, alot of money to lose :x
Anyway that is life !!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Ouch! That must hurt! :!: :!:
Hope that will end up well!
By the way, what size of carbone you ordered? :?:
-
I have 10mm and 6mm, I also have 8mm and 4mm tube coming from another source.
-
hey rich, has the sg 38 gone on the back boiler or IN the back boiler (with all that snow up there, it must be really cold)? haven't seen or heard any progress lately. what's the latest?
-
Hi Gerry last nite was minus 5 so everything is on the back burner !
Too cold you go into the shed.
Plus I have been extremely busy this last few weeks.
-

this is my number one glider for 2012
every man should have one or two :D
this model is capable of doing anything a glider pilot wants
i was flying today in winds up to 30 mph
thanks Fred

-
Very good Andrew
Never thought that will fly in a 30mph wind! That make it a good glider to bring anywhere then :D (autosatifaction is full on! )
I am very pleased with the way all these Quarks turned out! (Autosatisfaction still on! \:D/ ) and your Quark is really looking good!
Looking forward to see it flying now! :D
-
Andrew , looks like your having fun on the slope with the baby quark, hope to get up to see you soon !
I like the second foto, you can see the prison in the distance and the mouth of Lough Foyle leading to the North Altantic and the hills of Donegal.
I miss this place so much.
-
you're always welcome to fly with us richard
i can't say enough about the quark it's just first class
get your's built :D
i really enjoyed myself today conditions where tricky but the wee model handled it well
