I am requiring a 2.4ghz tx system preferably with the rx aswell and minium of 6 channels.
-
Hi Brendan,
What is your budget? :D
If you are not in a hurry right now, you can wait for the T9x, that should be available by the end of the week (well, at the soonest!)!
Like the Hxt9x, but comes with DSM2 module (Spektrum) and is ready to be flashed to Open9x and the like (so that gives you maybe what is one of the best radio around for a low price).
You also have the new FrSky 12D... That should be available really soon (compatible with FAAST, Futaba).
But that's budget stuff (Can't wait to see the Frsky one.. Apparently comes in 6, 8 and 12chanels, and 16ch as it seems that you will be able to link 2x 8ch receivers!).
Second option, might be to buy a second hand good radio, and then convert to 2.4ghz (lots of choice for conversion, Assan, Frsky, Turnigy, Jeti, Multiplex etc etc)

Hey Bren, our good friend Fred works in the world of computers. You can kinda tell can’t you, with his statements like;
“like the Hxt9x, but comes with DSM2 module (Spektrum) and is ready to be flashed to Open9x and the like” :?
I'm certain he knows exactly what he's talking about. I haven’t got a clue, but then I’m only an Englishman!

yes Keith Hxt9x I take it is a tx model dsm2 I aint up on to well as for open9x is a software download that utilises the ability of the tx that would bew my take on it.
-
Too answer your questions Fred My budget would be around 200 no real hurry at the moment just want a radio that I dont have to upgrade in a few months would make more sense to me to grow into it than out of it  :D
-
Okay Bren, you’ve just confirmed what I’ve often suspected, …..I’m a Numpty! :(
-
Now keith dont be so hard on yourself age catches up with us all

 Yeah, sorry, wrote that in a hurry between 2 meetings
That remind me, when I was working in IBM, we even had an acronym dictionary! Took me a year to understand a normal conversation!
Talking about the FRsky radio, first photos are already published.
The 9ch :

And the 12D :

Ok, I know, it's not helping at all!
Forgot to mention, you also have the MACI website, sometimes some good radios at good price in the buy/sell section, worth to keep a look at.
-
Thanks for the images Fred I have been keeping an eye on the maci site nothing yet only crystal sets at the moment.
Something is sure to turn up either new or secound hand.

Remember to consider a modifications.
A 35Mhz set can be changed to 2.4Ghz in a flash :D

That made me laugh!

I have read about this but is it as genuine as a 2.4ghz set what i mean is is it a true conversion

Yes, that will convert your 35mhz radio to 2.4.
Some mods are really straight forward (module swap), some need a little bit of work (very easy stuff).
Good thing is, you are spoiled for choice, can be cheap, and reliability is proven, and sometimes, even outperform the "main" brands (like Frsky for example).
-
Not too sure exactly what you’re asking Bren. The 2.4Ghz module normally clips or screws on the back of the 35Mhz Tx and converts the output from 35Mhz to 2.4Ghz. To all intents and purposes the 35 Mhz Tx then becomes a 2.4 Tx. With all the ‘channel hopping’ protocol and non interference properties 2.4Ghx has to offer.

Yea Keith thats what I meant wud it end up as good as a factory bought 2.4ghz or would it have restrictions as sometimes with electronics
-
Same as factory.
The only down is that you are limited by the number of channels (8) you can get because the 2.4ghz module will take the signal from the PPM signal of the radio.
It is about to change with some new protocols, but 8 channles will cover most of your need for a while.
-
Brendan, not sure if you saw that one from Richard (If still for sale)

Great radio!
-
Thanks Fred I did see it ages ago alright wasnt sure about it though.
I just sent him a pm.
Bren.

I think the 10sx have a module on the back (Richard might confirm).
In this case, the change to 2.4Ghz is as easy as swapping the module.
Frsky do one (sorry, I insist on them, as I use them)

Jeti:

And many more! (MPX, Graupner HOTT etc etc)
The only thing to be aware, is that when you go for a system, you are attached to it, as a receiver from A, will not be compatible with B etc etc.
Also, the price of receivers etc is dfinitively to take into consideration!
-
Do you mean fred that if i get a spectrum converter i have to get a spectrum rx?
-
That is correct.
Now, you can find some companies that do compatible one to another brand (Like Frsky do Fasst(Futaba) Compatible RX) but it can always be messy...
Another thing to consider, are the functions you want, if you want telemetry or not etc etc.
To me.. Buy a good second hand radio, put a Frsky or Assan module, buy a few RX, and play :)
If you can invest more, I would go for Jeti or Multiplex.
-
Thanks Fred food for thought.
-
No problem.
Forgot to say that you can also go for the HXT9 radio too, if you don't want to go second hand one.
-
Cheers again Fred you are all a great bunch of lads really helpfulI really appreciate this.
Really interested in your builds as iam a model maker but my ambition is not just to learn to fly well but to build a plane or glider and be able to fly thats a real buzz :-)

interesting little build.
Bren.

Moi?
Well, you can't deny that it is more satisfaction, thrill to fly a glider you built and/or design than a RTF one
And your choice of gliders is immensely bigger too :)
-
Well I certainly agree with you on that nothing like it.
Like building an r/c car and then just to watch it go its a natural high.
Actually could nearly fit little Keith in the cockpit be too tempting to head for the trees again

Talking about the 9rx in this thread, the radio has been released...
And first problem for Turnigy / HK, they are in complete breach of the GPL licence for the 9rx software...
But as this price, can't really beat it, or even stop the boycott!
A bit too "busy" radio for my taste, but for someone looking for something cheap. This is also basically the same radio as the 9x, with the 9rx software on it, just the case is different
