Title: Hlíðarvatn, Hlíðarendi and Kambar
Post by: selleri on September 08, 2014, 01:54:51 AM
Yesterday the south coast road trip (http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3612) was continued.

This time we started at the hills by Hlíðarvatn and started to hike up with our gliders. We stopped before we reached the top as the last part of the climb might have made for a pretty decent action flick if we'd have continued. The wind was blowing SSW with a nice and strong lift. After about 30 minutes it was time to move on so a landing was made on the hillside and then we headed down to continue our quest. There is another spot on the hill that looks like it might be easier to climb so I'll check that out on a future visit.

Take off!

Looking out towards the south coast, next stop Antarctica!

Next on the list was Hlíðarendi were we saw another nice hill, that will be flown at a later date.

Then we headed to Kambar for some relaxation and flying, we had decent condtions with a SSW wind, the view is always nice here though we had some low clouds that day.

You live in a stunning place, amazing shots and the map for context is really great, I'll hopefully get out with my Phoenix at the end of the month.

Cheers!

The P2K is great for that first throw off a new cliff and seems to be a pretty decent sloper to boot! Sören in Denmark has been doing lot of stuff with his even some DS.

Great pics selleri, the other nice thing about having a motor on your glider is it helps avoid those embarrassing walks of shame!!

Ah come on, it's still cheating!  :P

And if you don't do a walk of shame from time to time, that only mean that you are not trying hard enough!  :D

Never had an electric glider (well, yes, had one almost 25 years ago! a Goldberg Electra. Motors were from R5 wipers. NiCad batteries from alarm systems. Flying time... About 2 minutes on a good day :) Things have changed a bit since)

Anyway, that's off topic. The P2K does look good actually. And cheap!

Cheap is good!

The motor is a good safety blanket specialy when over wet grounds...
cheating can sometimes be good as we often fly from vertical cliff faces that are to steep to descend from the top. Well that's my excuse if I get caught cheating!
