Title: Hvalfjörður, not just a meeting place for shipping convoys

Went on a road trip today to check out viable flying spots along a part of the old highway #1 that got redunant when we made a small hole under the ocean (http://spolur.is/index.php/english.html).
Lot of nice places there that will be flown at a later date when the wind is blowing at them but as luck would have it we managed to check out a place we've
had our eyes on for some time now and the wind was blowing in the right direction for that site!

Suffice to say the conditions there are terrific with a nice large farmland for landing.

We'll undoubtedly be back with something larger!   :?:

Hey Sverrir, looks like you had a very fruitful journey. :D

Love the landing zone,.....lots & lots of long soft grasses. I bet even I could land a model on that stuff without damaging it. And a sea facing ridge, endless laminar air flow,....super. I'll have to add Hvalfjörður to my bucket list of places to fly. (God only knows how to pronounce it though :roll: )

Yea, I didn't know so many words came from our Icelandic /Norse cousins. In fact I don't think English is actually a single language, but a compilation of other peoples languages. Apart from Norse/ Icelandic there is loads of French, Latin, German, Urdu, Greek, Arabic,.....the list goes on and on.

Perhaps that's why English is so popular globally, everyone can recognize some words as their own!  :lol:

also just for info it looks a bit like hungarian , which derives from finish

Nobody understand Finnish, not even the Finns themselfs!  :lol:

But the answear is most likely no, Finnish and Hungarian are Uralic (along with Estonian) while Icelandic is a North Germanic language.
I can't understand anything a Finn says except maybe Nokia, though it's probably called something like Hääkkeelllipppennenenenesat in their native tounge!   :wink:
