Some of you may have seen the dates already, our first Glide-In of the year will be held in May, 16th and 17th at Mt Leinster !
All welcome, all types of models !
We will also organise during the week end the first leg of Slope Racing.
More details to come soon, stay tuned !
-
Hooo, this year crazy frenchies can't coming
-

Even worse, they are all coming in July for 2 weeks !! :P :P
Pubs are ready, stocks are made... \:D/

Know someone who thinks they might like to try their hand at gliding, but fears turning the plane into kindling? :?:
Well, think on this; I'll be bringing, to the fly-in, all in the above picture. A 2 channel glider, master Tx, and Slave Tx. (Buddy Box)
The model is quite easy to fly, it's a bit of a floater so it doesn't need gale force winds. And with only elevator and ailerons to control it's not too complicated.
The buddy box removes the chance of the "student pilot" crashing the model. I'll do that for them!
So, if you've got any brothers or sisters, mums and dads, grannies and grandads who'd like to try, they can!

Myself and Ger Buckley are coming on the Sunday morning. See you all then. Can't feckin wait. Haven't had a flight in ages. I will bring lots of buns.... 8)
Dave
-
Hey Dave,
Good to see you both :D And the buns!!! :P
Hopefully the weather will hold! So far, long forecast looks good for the week end! Hope that hold now!
Don't forget that we will have the first leg of glider racing! Bring something for it (anything will do anyway ! :P Friendly race!) Hopefully, the weather will be good for this bit of the week end.
Keith, that is really generous of you to do that!
The week end of the glide in, there will be a bicycle gathering at Mt Leinter and around (be carefull on your way up!) and can be a good way to introduce people to the hobby!
So, I willl update this thread with the weather forecast each time updates are available for the week end.
-
Well Les and I are planning on traveling up sat afternoon and stay overnight. Weatehr looking only so so. We will have to bring our wellies methinks :(
-
All,
Checked the forecast, and dramatic changes !
The week end is going to be wet ! :!: :!:
Winds sector South, and rain is forecasted for the 2 days!
Up to you who are coming from far away, I will be at the slope saturday morning early still and can give an update (text...) about the weather on site, but this is not looking good rainwise for the 2 days !
Spread the word ! :!: :!:
-
Fred, I can see Mt. Lienster from where I live. It's about 25Km (line of sight) away. I'm thinking that rather than you travel down from Dublin just to sit on a wet slope, I could post updates on conditions on the forum.
Do you think that might be better for you? :?:
-
Re schedule maybe? Just a thought, I have good rain gear though :)
-
I'm inclined to agree with you Ralph, I don't think we'll be doing much flying this weekend
-
Keith, sound like a plan !
You can also text me, I will be up early anyway !
Ralph, why not!
Who wants to have the event re-scheduled for the week end after ??
-
I don't mind cold, but I don't "do" rain.
I vote for next weekend.
-
Too bad about the weather - I vote for a re-schedule for the next weekend in the hope we can get more flying in then.
-
I think Les and I would make the Saturday but have our Club Heli Flyin on the sunday
-
I also vote for a re-schedule for next weekend. It looks like a lot of heavy showers this weekend although they do say there may be sunny spells between them. But we probably would not get much flying done. We'll spend most of our time runing from the slopes to our cars and back again because of the showers probably.
-
Ok, sound like a re-sheduling so !
Dave ? Are you ok with the move ?
-
Hi Guys,
If you are moving date wise can I ask for a two week postponement as MCFC have a comp on May 23/24 and Cork have their heli event on the 24th.
Also gives a chance to make personal arrangements.
Brian
-
Alright people, we can't really keep moving dates around !
So, as the latest weather forecast shows, the week end is going to be really wet in Mt Leinster.
The ISR glide in is cancelled ! :(
No further dates as that will be difficult to accomodate most of us ! But we can still talk about that here anyway. :D
Let's hope the weather for the National is going to be much better ! :D
But, I will still be available for the week end, Keith, you can still keep us posted on the weather, we never know, that might have a sudden change, and people living near can still meet! (I will, I have the 2 days off from the family)
First leg of the race league will have another date and be posted asap on the Race forum!
-
Hi all,
Geeeeezz Fred is that not a bit too dramatic.
Why not pick an alternate date that gives us a chance to make arrangements and just go for it.
After all you only have a few get togethers in the Year.
Just my twopence worth.
Brian
-
Hey Brian,
Drama queen eh ?
Well, I was thinking yesterday before coming to this decision, is that we can move the dates, but what if the weather is still bad ? We can't really mobilise people every week :?:
Next week end, everybody is busy, so we can move it in the next 2 weeks, but then, we have the National the week end after or so....
2 weeks after that, that's Retroplane... Nothing in August though, so we can move it to August, but still have the race league started well before that, sometimes in June or in 2 weeks...
So, who want to have it moved in 2 weeks ? (30 - 31st of May)
And I'll update the MACI calendar.
-
Hi Fred,
I would go for 30/31 May, or if not then maybe Aug.
Brian
-
Oki doki, so that's one, thanks Brian. :D
Other inputs for the dates ?
-
30/31
-
And 2 :D
-
I wont be able to make it for the 30/31. I will be in England for a week. I probably wont be available the weekend after that as well. So you can count me out for the ISR Fly-In :(
-
Doesn't matter to me a great deal (If the weather is good I'll be on Big L both weekends! :D )
The only slight down side to the weekend of 30/31 is that it's a bankholiday weekend........If we are using the North/South slope then for clumsey old fools like me it can get a bit difficult. I've found that people/spectators tend to stand just where I want to land :!: So I'd have a little preference for next weekend.
Fred, I'll text you first thing tomorrow morning with a weather update
Keith
-
25km away... lucky! :)
You can put a webcam pointing to it.
I don't believe much in long term forecasts but still Windfinder shows a decrease in rain for the upcoming week along with a small increase in temperature.
Not sure if there is another site out there that shows more further ahead.
-
Bugger! Thats a pain. Used up all the good weather last year?!
Although it does mean that I will be back in the country for the rescheduled meeting. Ha Ha Ha! My evil plan seems to be working perfectly!!
-
So which is your prefered weekend Joe? and how about Peter and Dave. What's your input guys???
K
-
If anyone is interested,...............Weather here is very heavy showers and some sunny periods. ( A real contradiction :? )
Mt. L. is completely cloud covered.
Good Winds though :D 30 gusting to 50 Km/h
Personaly I wouldn't bother traveling to Big L this morning. Things might improve later in the day :)
K.
-
Thanks Keith for the update
Same here... Rain like mad, but woke up under a nice sunny sky ! :!: :!:
-
Hi,
Tomorrow looks quite good, just one or two showers.
However the winds are back around to frow just East of South which is worst possible for Mt L .
So is it 30/31.This seems to suit most and Joe as well.
Brian
-
Ok, 30/31 it is !
I'll update the MACI calendar tomorrow.
Talking about tomorrow.. Weather looks good for the morning, but low clouds seems to be on the menu for the day ! :!:
Rain in the afternoon...
Anyway, I'm ready if a few of you decided to go.
Otherwise, next week end, as usual :D
-
I'll post a weather update of Big L. at around 07.00.
Quite strong winds forecast for tomorrow, bring plenty of ballast with you lads  Wooopppeeeee!
K.
-
Thanks Keith,
But if you do it at 8, I will not be mad at you ! :P
-
If you get mad at me I'll go on Strike!
So, right now (06.58 ) I can't see Big L. Totaly cloud covered, heavy rain, winds S.W.'ish at 20 - 30 Km/h..........BUT, out to the western horizon the sky is much brighter :D
I'll give another report in an hour. (It does look slightly hopeful)
K.
-
Conditions have much improved (08.00) Stoped raining! :D
Large areas of blue sky, (with fluffy white clouds floating around) Cloud base is rising allowing the lower 30% of Mount lienster to be visible.
Wind speed has droped slightly but still SW'ish
On this basis I think we can expect a few showers but probably should be able to fly from around mid morning.
I'll give another up date in an hour.
K.
-
Cool,, thanks Keith.
Forecast says rain to come back in the afternoon with low clouds :!:
-
Okay chaps,......final update of the day 09.00. (Otherwise there will be no time for flying!)
Mt L. is still not totally visible. The very top and radio mast are still in the clouds but the area around Nine Stones is clear. :D Blue sky but dark clouds floating around
Wind speed at the moment is falling and from the South.
Overall, in my estimation, it's Good to Go :D
I'm gonna have some breakfast and load the car. I'll be at Nine Stones around 11.00
I look forward to seeing as many of you up there as care to take the chance on the weather and make the journey :)
Tally-Ho

Have a good morning, we in Cork are off to Kinsale for the morning.
See you all in 2 weeks
Ralph
-
So there I was, sitting in Nine Stones carpark at 11am. Lovely warm sunshine. Steam rising off of the tarmac road, and the wind had picked up a little.
So why wasn't I a happy guy?
The bloody wind had also changed direction and was blowing from East - South East. No flying on Mt. L. !
So I got back in my car and came home. But to add insult to injury, here at home, the wind is still in the south  I assume the center of the low pressure area must be somewhere in the 25K between me and Big L.
What a shitty day!
-
Thanks Keith for the weather commentary from Mt L - very useful to have someone 'on the ground'. Too bad the wind did not co-operate today. Weather looks poor for the coming week too. I'm happy to postpone for a fortnight - although I will probably be busy on the 30th. However, if the weather is OK, may try to get to Mt. L for gliding on Sunday 31st.
Peter
-
Pity things did not work out this weekend. We took a chance and went up to tounntine today. We got over an hours flying but had to duck some heavy showers. Otherwise it worked out ok. Hopefully we will make it over in a couple of weeks.
The wind was shifting from S to SE so we were flying electric gliders over the small lake at the top. There is a bowl shape here which generates lift for lighter models. Not the most ideal slope but any port in a storm eh?
-
Hi all,
Same as Peter, I would like to take the opportunity to thanks Keith for his updates on the weather conditions live at the slope !
I have sent a mail to the MACI to update the event calendar, and put the ISR glide-in for the 30 / 31st of May :D
Hopefully with a much decent weather (should not be too difficult ! )
Dave, I'll only be there the 13th of June for the National, as I have the daughter Christening the next day !
-
Kinsale had lovely blue skies all day. A steady 15mph straight onto the slope all day. Many large glass model in action. Pity about the weather for the glide in but fingers crossed for 2 weeks time
Ralph
-
Fingers and toes crossed !!
Lucky you had some good flying !
Any photos ? :D
