-
Oh great Luke, thanks for that.
Am I actualy going to get to meet you this Saturday then? We can fly our Phase 6's together. :D
Keith
-
hello keith,
yeah can`t wait , if i can escape for an hour or two , on the maci site it said it supposed to be a two day event???
-
Yes, it is a two day event but I'm going down with Joe who has to return the same day. So he and I will only be there for the Saturday.
Do try and "escape" for a while if you can :D it'd be nice to put a face to the author.
-
A SW wind this weekend on tounntine would be perfect. Hope to get to this one at least.
See you there
Dave
-
Looking forward to this one. It's been a long time since I've been down. Missed the last few years.
Even managed to get an hour in the workshop to make a start at getting the brakes working on my ASH so I can stop the bloody thing!
It's actually only a one day event with Sunday as a back up incase Saturday doesn't work out weather wise. This usually how it's run as far as I know?!
-
could somebody point exact location of the site ?
I understand it is around here (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ie=UTF8&ll=52.832329,-8.43132&spn=0.076537,0.219727&t=p&z=13) ...
R494 and few local roads...
will try to join event on Saturday (weather dependent).

Alright lads,
Back a bit alive on the forum!
So, for this week end, We should all meet in Killaloe, as usual, on the main street (Where the church is when you enter the village, on the side of the river).
What time do we meet ? 8 am ?
Then, we can all go to the slope, but I cannot remember how to get there, last year, I was with Peter and his great memory! :D
Anyway, What time are we meeting at in the vilage ??
-
ER????? Is there an 8am?
Being a gentleman of leisure, so I don't normaly get out of bed till 10
-
Well as you are up till 5am boozing and partying it's understandable Keith! 8)
I would way say 10:30 is more realistic for me and Keith.
We would have to leave about 5am to be there by 8!! And as I said Keith will probably be just winding down then!! :D
Got a reminder txt from Gerry Buckley yesterday. Wind looks good. Chance of a shower but this is Ireland after all!
-
That was more to take out most of the day.
We usually meet between 8 and 9 am every year. Cakes and coffee/tea on the road! :D
Who else for an early start ?
Gerry, Dave, what time are you at the slope ?
-
Gerry said in his txt he would be there from 9am
-
Cool!
Who is going to be in the village early so ?
For people like me who can't remember how to get to the slope?!
By the way, is there a mechanic around ?
Quick question : I have a cracked manifold, so my car sound like a boy racer's car now :D
Is that ok to drive long distances like this ? :?:
-
Fred,
Driving long distances with a cracked exhaust manifold can seriously damage your engine's health. It's okay to drive if you're just 'nipping to the shops,' but over long distances the crack will create a "hot spot" which, if it's near the exhaust ports, can distort the cylinder head. VERY expensive to replace.
If you have to use that car tomorrow try to keep the revs down. But if you have a second vehicle I'd use that if I were you. (I've got a bicycle you could borrow!)
Keith
-
Ah feck !
Can't borrow wife's car tomorrow! :!: :!:
Well, I can be on mechanical forfait for tomorrow then!! :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:
Still waiting for the manifold part to arrive, and nothing showed up so far!
-
Hi Fred,
Keith is talking about British built 1950's engines :D .
A more likely risk is of it breaking and dropping on the road as you drive along.
Have a good look as it may just be a hole. French metal in Irish weather
-
Hi Brian,
True, even more, Keith might been talking about a Model T, who knows! :P
Hmmm, I cannot weld it, I have nothing to do that, and Killaloe is a bit far from base if I have a problem with the car! :!: :!:
That's it, I'm P*** off!
French cars, definitively not used to that much humidity!
-
Personaly Fred, I wouldn't risk a long journey with a cracked manifold.
with a bit of luck, maybe one of the other Dublin based lads could give you a lift. I'm sure you wouldn't mind sitting on a roof rack would you :P
-
Alright so, I'm done for tomorrow! :!: :!:
Joe, fancy to pick me up ? :?: Then, motorway almost all the way from Dublin...
Otherwise, I'll try to deal something with the wife to have her car, but I'll only bring small stuff so... :?
-
Fred, Ger and Myself will be there about 9am.
For anybody needing directions to the slope. Here goes.
1. Call me or Gerry if completely lost. Dave 086 8218746 Ger 086 3497493.
2. From the Main N7 Limerick to Dublin turn at the village of Bird hill. If travelling from the dublin direction you need to turn right at the main roundabout outside Birdhill. Signposted for Ballina/Kilalloo. If Travelling from the Limerick Direction you need to drive through Birdhill to the dublin side. Then turn left at the main roundabout for Ballina.
3. In Ballina you will have plenty space to park up and meet.
4. Head North through the village until you meet a tiny roundabout outside the Grocery store. Continue straight ahead at this roundabout.
5. You will then take the first right turn. You will know you are on the right path at this stage as the road takes a sudden uphill direction.
6. So the basic rule is KEEP RIGHT from now on. the next right turn is just opposite a small house on your left. He always has a boat parked there. There is a sign saying Graves of the Leinstermen straight ahead. Just turn right.
7. The road takes a downhill direction now to a very small bridge. Continue straight on.
8. Continue after the small bridge for about a mile or so. You will be doing some pretty decent uphill climbing now. The Next right turn is almost at the top. By now it will be very obvious that you need to turn right to get to the top of the hill. This turn is a very sharp and steep. It is almost a U turn in a 35degree uphill direction. 1st gear job!
9. Drive straight to the top. Car park at the top beside the transmission tower.
10. If lost refer to step 1.
See you there.
Dave
-
Thanks a million Dave!
Crystal clear now! :D
-
The models are packed, the batteries are charged, and there's a 20Km/h breeze forecast for tomorrow :D
Joe and I are meeting up around 07.30 with, I'm told, a 3 hour drive ahead of us.
I'm looking forward to this, and hoping to learn how the experts fly off Tountinna. (I can spell it, but I still can't pronounce it! ) I've still got much to learn, so I'll be scrutinizing you local lads and expecting great things from you
So good luck to us all,........and to hell with the showers!!!
Keith.
-
Big thanks to Dave and Gerry for their warm welcome as always and for showing us how it's done Munster style!
Great days flying. Decent lift, lots of pilots, all types for models from foamie wings to big scale aerobats. Bit of mayhem at times with all the pilots flying at once.
Gerry, Dave and Declan seemed to have gotten a taste for combat too. Should make for a good laugh next time round. Might be bad news for you though French man! You might consider reinforcing that P51!
Fred, Keith anyone?? We are relying on you for photos as usual
Unfortunately even with all the good flying and crack, I'm afraid to say many pilots did leave very disappointed. :( :( :( :(
There can only be one explanation...
NO BUNS!!
-
Afraid I didn't take my camera,.........OOOooopppss :(
I'm sure I saw a big wide angle lense glinting in the sunshine, so someone must have some picies? :D Come on, don't be shy, own up! Who was the man with the camera?
-
Hi guys,
Thanks for coming down. We all had a great days flying. The combat was great craic. We will definitely get some models ready for the next meet. The french war machine will be crushed.
I had to eat all the buns myself back at the bakery on sat night. Man was I sick. They tasted sooooo goood though :-&
I might make it over on sat for the retroplane event. Just a day trip for me to see the models etc... Want to see Freds new Ka1 fly.
thanks again for coming over. Thanks Kieth for letting me fly your Skua! brilliant fun.
cheers
Dave
-
Yep... NO BUNS!!!
Thanks God I had some gliders with me to keep me busy for the day! :P
Bring the EPP stuff for combat, I will destroy you as a punishment! I'll go for the plane first as a warm up, then, I'll go for my new technic called "go for the pilot"
P51 ready to combat again and can't wait to put all the baddies out of the sky! :D
Anyway, thanks again to all of you for yet another very good National glider ! Good slope, good lift, good weather (ok, even if we had a some stage a nice discussion about jeans that are harder to dry than anything else, and Keith fear to have somebody beside him for a good 2 hours on his underwear!  ) and a good number of pilots !
A bit freaky sometimes but everything done with a good laugh at the end!
Here are a few photos, sorry, not a lot, and no videos, spent lots of time flying instead!
We were only 2 pilots for a good hour, waiting for everybody to arrive. Good to test the slope (never flew that one before)
Had the Algebra, and did some VTPR with the Wazeco.
Look at the view...

To quote donkey from Shrek
I like big Buns and I can not Lie....
To quote homer
hmmmmmmmmmmm buns... :)
To quote shakespear
To bun or not to bun that is the question? :P
To quote Darwin
Buns were not just created. But the evolution of buns can be traced back to the cupcake and there is fossil evidence to show the existence of cake crumbs as far back as the cretacious period. (taken from the origin of buns) :?:
Jees I would kill for a bun about now....
D.

Buns, Buns,.........good for the heart,
The more you eat, the more you fart
