Our "first" Glide-In of the year will be held in May, 30th and 31st at Mt Leinster !

All welcome, all types of models !

We will also organise during the week end the first leg of Slope Racing.

I hate to be negitive guys, but if the wind stays as predicted for the weekend I don't think anyone will be flying at Mt. Lienster. East - south east winds = no lift!

Any other direction would provide some degree of lift, but at the moment they are predicted to be from the worst possible direction.

Let's all sit tight and watch the weather forecasts for the next few days :(

(Woe is Me)

So wing guru is now saying that the wind will shift  around to the North on Sunday. Lets see what happens in the next day or two.

Topic gone quiet, is there any interest out there for the weekend or will it just be Saturday? :?

Hi Ralph,

Unfortunately, only Saturday for me !

Weather is looking like the same we had last May, when the Frenchies were here !  :D

So, I'll bring a bit of everything with me for flying!
Will be up there early to have the most of the day!

If the wind goes round to the north a bit on Sunday afternoon I'll be up at Big L. But Saturday looks very "ifee" for me. :( I'm not really into thermals.

Pitty the winds are in this rotten direction

So here is the story so far..
Saturday looks like the windier day with lighter winds on Sunday turning north-easterly in the evening. Below are the options slope wise but we will have to see when we get there as last year I believe the winds were similar and people flew thermals from the north facing slope with great success!!
I am good for Saturday but not sure about Sunday at the moment.

Option one.
There is a south-east bowl on the top of Mt Leinster. Unfortunately we don't have a key so we can't drive up. This would mean a good walk. The PG/HG guys reckon it is good but they don't like it cause there is not really a landing out for them. I have not flown it yet. I'm a lazy bugger.

Option two
Again at Mt leinster. Again another good walk around the top of the hill to the south-east face part of the bowl. Again I'm a lazy bugger so haven't flown it.

Option three
Is Annagh hill which another 15/20km north-east of Mt Leinster. Again this is a favoured spot for the HG/PG guys. Unfortunately you need a 4x4 to get up the farm track to the top. I can shuttle people but again it's not ideal!

There is a small coastal site very close to me that is south-east so I usually fly there instead of heading to Mt Leinster and walking. Did I mention I'm a lazy bugger!  :D

I'll be there!

Other option, well, if only I was not as lazy as Joe and had finished the tow plane, would be to have an aerotow day...  :?:

Anyway, I'm up for ML, I'll get there early! Last May, we flew thermal there, and that was great !  :D

But I will follow the majority anyway.

Seems to me that if the wind is from the E / SE a slope facing that direction would be best. Being a coastal slope the air is smoother as well.

I vote for that one. Option 4.(But then I'm not driving from far away.)

And by the way, I'm not lazy,.....I'm just old!

Hi Guys,
Unless we can get access to the top slopes,or are willing to walk a long way, there will be little 'slope' soaring up on Leinster this weekend.
I was really looking forward to this but wallowing around is not for me while there are nearly perfect conditions for flat field flying.
So I'm voting for option 5, unless things improve.

Yeah, com'on Peter, you can teach me how to Thermal. (Sounds like some kinda 60's dance doesn't it! ) (Of course, you wouldn't know about such things,....... silly me  )

I've just heard from Fred, he recons he'll be at Mt. Lienster for 9am.  (I'll belive it when I see it!)

I think the wind might be a little bit unforecastable this weekend. I was at my local south-east slope today but the wind was east! contrary to all forecasts

I guess before all this internet info and forums we would just show up and deal with whatever weather we got!

I'll be at nine stones in the morning around 10:30 with fingers crossed  :D

OK - I'll aim for 10-10.30 at the Nine Stones - give the thermals a chance to bubble up!!  See you there.

Well, that was a very interesting day :D  Always nice to meet up with like minded people, even if they do arrive late. :(   But we wont hark on about that :!:

The wind blew (for some of the time), and we all did "The Funky Thermal"

My little camera couldn't handle all that sun light when in movie mode. So I only have snaps shots of the day.

Talking of thermals, they certainly lift the models, like they were on an escalator!

This is Tweedle Dum & Tweedle Dee(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/Happy%20Days/Tweedle_Dum_and_Tweedle_Dee%20re%20sized.jpg)

Fortunatly the wind went round to the south for some of the day, other times it went very slack :(

This is Layback Pete (Cool Dude) enjoying the rays(http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/Happy%20Days/Layback_Pete%20re%20sized.jpg)

Ralph was very Rude, (Rude Ralph we'll call him from now on.) Fancy sticking his tounge out at me! I don't know where it's been  (http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/Happy%20Days/Rude_Roger%20re%20sized.jpg)

When the wind dropped Fred resulted to desperate measures. On his knees to plead with the model to fly

Likeable Les enjoyed the sunshine and the flying. Said he found flying his "Gental Lady" a bit demanding when the wind got up though.

Some of the spectators who wandered over for a look-see found it all much too exciting..........and fell asleep

Brian, a man who enjoys 'serious power,' was in a particularly serous mood when flying his 4 Mtr plane. Just look at the expresion on his face  (http://www.gliderireland.net/forum/images/uploads/Happy%20Days/Serious_Brian%20re%20sized.jpg)

So all in all a better day than I'd expected. Lets hope for more times like it. :D

Thanks for sharing the photos lads.

I ventured up the slope myself on Sunday morning for a few hours. No wind so had to use the motor to get some height. Eventually found some thermals to keep the plane up.

I just flew my stock easystar with flycamoneV2 attached to the canopy. I have 20mins or so video recorded so I will do some editing & post up just a few minutes.

I had an easyglider too but did not use it as the wind was non existant and did not fancy a long walk in that heat!

I'll have a look tonight

Cool photos.
Good to see them as i only stoped there for a bit by the end of the afternoon. Saturday I'm in resting mode, so it's hard to make my body move sooner in the morning! :D
But i promise next time I'll be there to get the first sun rays of the day and fly more.
Cause the little i did definitely showed me I'm loosing the few skills i had. :)

In all it was nice to see some friendly faces and planes in the air.

I do also made some movies with my &%%$&%& flycamone. That decided to loose power in the middle of all the flights.
Still i have the T1000 flying a bit and some wings flying around.

Video taken with FLYCAMONEV2 at Mt Leinster. I have to change the angle of the camera so the nose does not appear in future clips.

http://www.vimeo.com/5019164

IceWind: The FlyCam as you know is not all that reliable, which is a pity. It has a mind of its own when it decides to cut out on you even with a full battery. But decent quality picture for the size and weight of it.

Great photos posted by the way.

So you were flying off the North Slope on Sunday Anthony  . We'd been flying off of the South slope the previous day.
Nice little clip of film there, and as you say, very clear. Good cam' that one.

I might have to get myself one of those things. Luke got his aerial shots by strapping his phone to the plane with rubber bands!  (He's a brave man that Luke  )

Are you going to the MACI Glide-In next weekend?
