For Sale / Trex 450 V3 Sport (clone) - SOLD
« on: March 08, 2011, 00:04:28 AM »
Got this frame and started building it but never finished.
It has 4 hxt90 servos in it already.

The head and tail are full metal and the frame is in carbon.
All is brand new and never used.

It has a pair of standard blades as well that I'll join in the kit.

I'll be happy with 75 for this.

FPV / My quad videos.
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:11:21 AM »
Hi,

I had this done sometime ago and almost forgot about it.
It was done in Malahide Park, someone lend me a GoPro HD and I stick it into the quad for a ride.
I didn't spend much time editing it so it's a bit boring.

This ended in I getting one myself, so more videos to follow.

Misc / Monocok - Software to create fuselages.
« on: October 25, 2010, 23:17:30 PM »
Hi,

Here goes what seems a nice tool to help create fuselages for sailplanes.

Details:
Monocok is designed to create fuselages of sailplanes or aircrafts with ovoid forms.
It can also be used to design simple hull of helicopters or boats. It's a simple software designed by a model maker for the model makers. Thanks to Monocok, all the models you've dreamed become easily realizables ! Monocok helps you to design scale model with wood monocoque structure. It can also be used to make mould in polystyrene or glass fiber. You can export your project in DXF or PDF format to modify them in your favorites softwares !

Features:
    * Selective export of the formers.
    * Real time zoom up to scale of 0.5.
    * Former number preview.
    * Real time preview of some modifications (Formwork - Smoothing)
    * Precise and dynamic adjust buttons for numerical values
  • and [-].

    * Intuitive modification of the profile form with the mouse.
    * Loading of background images for each view (Templates).
    * Add centered notches on half-formers.
    * Intuitive design of fuselages with rounded forms without particular knowledge.
    * Layout and printing of all fuselage half-formers
    * Possibility to add notches on the formers.
    * Layout of the three model profiles : left and right side profile as well as top view.
    * Precise fitting of the form and size of the fuselage with control formers.
    * Automatic calculation of the intermediate formers.
    * Design of plans on several pages (A4 to A0, B5 to B0, C4 to C0, US formats).
    * Export plans to PDF format for printing.
    * Export formers and profiles of the fuselage to DXF format.
    * Safeguard of all the project parameters.
    * Real-time preview of the model with antialiasing .
    * Modification with a precision of 1/10 mm.
    * Management of the metric system (mm) or the inches (in.)

Electrics / QuadCopter - Build and Fly
« on: October 19, 2010, 22:24:58 PM »
Hi,

I'll share here my latest project.
For sometime I wanted to build one of these and this summer I got the time to finish it.
I started by going to Quaduino, but quickly gave up as the electronic base of the project is a Arduino board that is quite cheap but the rest of the sensors and stuff is quite expensive.
So I found the following that combines simple gear and good results.
Link: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1143569

This one on the other hand requires a lot of soldering and testing but that
is not a bother if you like.

All the board layouts are available if you want to make one or you can get one already made one.
As here I don't quite have the space and tools to make them myself I got a already made.

Starting to solder the parts:

Finished board:

Gear:

EMAX FC-2822

These are the cheapest you can get but also the worse motors ever... but we can't ask much for $6 each.

Props:
2x 8x3.6 CW
2x 8x36 CCW

The choice of propellers is hard has not many brands make them CW and they are also hard to get.

ESC - 25A
I could have used much less Amp rated ones but I decided to go to something more stable and better in software.

LiPo 2200mah 30C
A bit short, but for now I can go shorter flight times.

Frame:
The frame was designed in partnership with a friend.
All designed in CAD it was later laser cut with strong ply, the total weight
of the wood parts is around 108g what is not too much.
Later it will have 4 square tube arms of 10x10x1mm.

Final look of all assembled:

Primeiro voo:

Video from the first flight:

On this one it wasn't properly setup, I'll post a more recent video were it it is was more stable and easy to fly.

Slope Soaring / Monkey Swinger 48''
« on: May 15, 2009, 17:35:12 PM »
Ok here it goes.

I was in Portugal for some days and had no glider with me.... lots of wind, places to fly and no glider.
Star searching on forums for something nice to build.

And saw the following on RCGroups that caught my attention, build with simple depron and it seemed to perform well.

http://team-monkey.zoar.co.uk/
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=885150

Is something similar to a Wasabi, le fish, voltij and some other.
They are using it for VTPR that was something i found very recently and i was completely amazed.
Some like to fly up high i prefer to have the plane closer and see what he is doing so this is perfect for me. Ok i lack the skills to do all the maneuvers but that come with time and help.

So i had several 3mm and 6mm depron sheets getting dust, brand new 5gr servos that i don't want to use on other models so it was the perfect project.

Started by printing the A0 plans, tried first the tiled A4 but they were not ok.
Cutted the parts and... post-poned the assembly to my return to Dublin.
I didn't want to leave it there so i pack all the parts and they travelled with me in the bag!
Choosing between a extra pair of trousers or parts to build a glider what you do choose? :)

I'll post some photos later on.

Misceleanous / Where to get colored Packing tape.
« on: May 11, 2009, 16:24:12 PM »
Hi Slope fanatics,

I was trying to get some colored packing tape.
And i indeed found some on ebay, from the UK.
Thing is despite the tape is quite cheap in price the shipping is a Rip-off!
22€ to ship a handfull of roles... instead if it was for the N.I. it would be 6.99€.
I'd rather get an house on belfast to receive the packages... :(

So the question is, does anyone know if i can get some tape around in Dublin? I was going to use it to cover and decorate a depron made plane and i really didn't want to use the normal ugly brown tape. I don't wanna have a flying brownie.

Thanks.
